Just got home from seeing it and I’m already planning my second viewing. My expectations were exceeded.

As someone who has always said that Tobey or Tom was his favorite Spider-Man, Andrew made it very clear that he is the best and just deserved better movies.

I enjoyed this a lot, but might need to see it again before forming a solid opinion.

It was cool to see this with a lively crowd. Didn’t feel like there were a lot of huge laughs in it though, at least compared to the others. Like I feel like the Tobey line about watching his best friend die should have got a huge laugh, but they fumbled it with the timing.

I had a good time seeing a lot of the nostalgic stuff and pretty much everyone that came back had a lot of fun with it. As others said, this proves Garfield was a great Peter Parker.

My bummer thoughts: I think it also proves that Jon Watts is the worst Spider-Man director. The whole movie felt like it was lit by a single light bulb and it was so desaturated. When it got to the final showdown, you’re so used to seeing GG in Sam Raimi’s bright, colorful aesthetic that it doesn’t look right in the most drab, dull color palette. And the action scenes were a mess visually. There’s some other nitpicks, like the leaps in logic and whatnot, but I don’t want to sound too much like a crank. I had a good time, but it had the potential to be much more than it was.

A bunch of people were stoked for Matt Murdock’s cameo.

If Tobey and Andrew were there the whole time why didn’t they see on the news that Doc Oc and so were running around? Why did it take until that moment for them to show? Did their spider-sense not tingle?

Is my girlfriend who has only seen Homecoming and no other Spider-Man movie ever gonna have no idea what the fuck is going on if we see this?

The film explains it well enough that she'll know why those characters in the film, but it won't be as fun if she doesn't have any emotional connection to said characters.

  12. Thought that was just me on the final battle being dark. Wasn't sure if it was the theater I went to or the movie itself, I had a hard time making out what was happening.

Andrew got the largest crowd reaction by far when he showed up and my god he deserved it.

they really should make him the Spider-Man of the Venom movies. Or find some other way to use him again.

A credible leaker stated that Marvel is wanting to bring him back for Secret Wars. If that’s the plan then I’m sure Sony will utilize him until then.

I’m also glad that the Sonyverse Eddie Brock isn’t staying in the MCU and that we can (hopefully) have the symbiote on Peter before going to the MCU’s Eddie Brock.

I don't think they quite got the writing right for Tobey, he was way more awkward and sincere in the originals. Kind of just felt like typically MCU quips from him at points, would of liked a little more care on part of his tone.

Also don't remember Willem Dafoe being quite so insane in Spiderman 1?

Tobey was pretty sincere when he had to be (talking about Ben’s death and when he regretted killing the man who he thought murdered him). He did seem a bit more lighthearted in some parts but his character has aged 15 years since we last saw him so it makes sense for his demeanor to change over time.

I dunno, my man was talking to an invisible voice in his head that manifested itself in a goblin shaped mask.
