Secured IMAX tickets for Sunday so that I don’t have to listen to my students spoil it for me Monday.

  4. Venom coming in and being pulled straight out but leaving behind some of the symbiote sounds so fucking terrible. And it sounds like everyone thinks it was pulled off very bad

$150m seems like a lowball estimate. I’d guess closer to $170-$180

I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets closer to $200 million OW. It’s been selling out alot of showtimes. Not as much as much as Endgame but still way more than a $150 million projection. I honestly feel like covid won’t have much affect on this film in the US.

Can we keep this current so we can figure it out when we can actually see the movie? Dying to know

So basically you’ve already decided it’s not going to be good and nothing can convince you otherwise? Why even read reviews then lol jeez

I'm extremely skeptical of post-premiere reviews, especially coming from Sony, who usually hand-picks the biggest marks for whatever property they're touting ("Ghostbusters: Afterlife" had glowing reviews in its first wave.) But the fact that they're including more professional outlets has me thinking they're not doing that as much with this.

If anyone hasn’t bought tickets and has T-Mobile, you can get a ticket for this for $4 through the T-Mobile Tuesday app. You just have to buy through Atom.

I couldn’t get anything until Sunday but I don’t mind lol. Just FYI you can only get one discounted ticket per code.

It shows that Sony had no real plans. Should just leave it all to papa Feige.

    So assuming that this weekend...

I was at the premiere last night. This movie is very, very good.

Try to avoid spoilers as much as you can.

I don't mind spoilers but i really just want to know one thing about this movie and one thing only. Does this movie write Tom Holland's Spider-Man out of the MCU?

  19. No. But Strange's spell makes everyone forget who Parker and Spider-Man is. Including Strange. Seems like a pretty sad ending from spoilers.

ohhh ok. Sounds like The Sentry thing from the comics kinda. The fake script leaks i read like a year ago made it seem like Strange's spell at the end was going to put Spider-Man into an entirely new universe completely separate from the MCU. It also did say that MJ was going to forget who Peter was, and Peter was going to run into Gwen Stacy at the very end.

These kinda movies have an ecosystem of people who are gonna heap hyperbolic praise on 'em, and a disproportionate number of those nerds tend to be part of that initial premiere crowd. And, my tastes and interests and priorities are fundamentally different from that crowd in a way that makes their takes pretty useless to me. For those whose opinions often line up with that, cool, whatever, you do you, but it's a hard pass on that from me. I'd rather read a nuanced review with takes I may or may not agree with but that I can at least tell are coming from a critical lens with some substance to it.

There are tons of actual outlets giving this positive reviews (LA Times, Rolling Stone, Thrillist, Entertainment Weekly, AV Club, Vanity Fair, Variety, Hollywood Reporter, etc.). It’s by no means all hyperbolic praise from fan blogs that got invited to an early screening. Acting like that’s where all the praise is coming from, or that those kinds of places are the only ones giving this “eager praise”, is such a funny cope lol

As @Anthony_ already mentioned above though, there's a lot of professional critics out there saying this is an improvement over the first two and generally pretty positive about it. You do you, but it just seemed to me like you found one of the few reviews that would confirm the expectations you've already set up for yourself, when the general consensus has been pretty positive. Just reads to me like you're going in expecting to not like it, which imo is a pretty cynical way to consume entertainment, but again you can do whatever you want of course.
