TASM movies might be what killed most of what was left of my love for superhero movies. Just utter and complete disregard for functional filmmaking

 

Homecoming is probably the best non-Raimi, non-Spider-Verse Spider-Man movie. It's solid fun even if I have quibbles. Far From Home and the Webb movies barely qualify as stories

 

Can we at least agree that Webb is a much better director when it comes to the action scenes vs Watts? The TASM movies have the best web-swinging I've seen, and pretty creative fight scenes in general

 

Train fight in Spider-Man 2 is still the undisputable GOAT

Came here to say this. The Webb action/swinging is pretty much the only redeeming quality of TASM2. I go back to that intro swinging on youtube once every couple months.

 

I saw a clip of the school Spidey/Croc fight scene from the first Webb movie and it does look pretty good and the action is well choreographed, it's more memorable than anything the MCU Spider-Man is doing (and as much as I believe you can write a good story with whatever elements are there, I do think that Peter being grounded by not having an Iron Man suit is pretty helpful).

I also find it interesting that since the Raimi trilogy, we have not yet* had a Spider-Man film that doesn't directly tap into the iconography of those films, mostly Spider-Man 2. The Raimi films have so far established the cinematic language of Spider-Man and no one has seemed to want to leave it behind, which speaks to the lasting quality of particularly Spider-Man 2.

*- it's possible Far From Home doesn't do as much of that, I'll admit I've forgotten large segments of that movie both intentionally and unintentionally

What about the villains? I think they're more difficult to rank than the spider-men. I'd probably go with

I can't imagine not having Spider-Verse at the top of the list. It's so clearly the best one.

That scene is so perfect, the first Webb movie and Homecoming both tried to do their own versions of it (all the construction cranes aligning themselves to let Andrew Garfield get to Oscorp mirrors when all the citizens on the train stand up to Ock and give Peter his mask, then Tom Holland holding together the ferry obviously reflects Tobey in front of the train). It’s a perfect scene.

 

Peter Parker danced in spider-verse also

It’s the best movie

 

People were cheering in the theater while he was stopping the train
