I saw a version with the scene brightened up and it's way more obvious there from the figure's movements.

Edit: my bad, that is the clip I saw.

To the One More Day conversation:

One Moment in Time, in a vacuum, is actually a good story. I say this as someone who hates One More Day and what it represents.

In a perfect world, this wouldn’t have any of the multiverse stuff that Into the Spider-Verse does better, and would instead be based on parts of Back in Black and One Moment in Time, with bits of the Ditko Amazing & Zdarsky Spectacular thrown in.

without BND, we never would have gotten this gem. I call it a wash.

    Counter point:

Without OMD/BND, the Renew Your Vows status quo could be 616 Peter & MJ’s status quo, instead of whatever mediocre mess Nick Spencer has been doing the past few years.

He’s got a big “Sinister War” event going on that’ll wrap up his run… which he’s got Ed Brisson co-writing. Really limping to the finish here. It looks like it COULD actually finally undo One More Day after a billion teases, though…

Just in time for the new creative team, which is back to the writer’s room approach of Brand New Day, with (at least) 3 issues out a month. The lead writer is Zeb Wells, and two others are Kelly Thompson & Saladin Ahmed, so that’s promising. Got some Sara Pichelli art in there, and Art Adams on covers.

The premise to this new status quo? Well, Peter’s gonna be in a coma or maybe even temporarily dead or something (MJ’s got a ring in some of the promo art while over his body), and a Ben Reilly backed by the Beyond Corporation is taking over. Weird, lol, but I’m cautiously intrigued.

I agree that the whole Kindred thing is taking a billion fucking years to wrap up, which is why I hate how much comics get written to sell trades.

Nevertheless, I do actually like the idea behind Kindred and I'm pleasantly surprised that they actually followed up on the whole "Mysterio came back from the dead" subplot from 1973.*

    *not really from 1973

While its incredibly hard not to be excited about all the returning actors in their original roles, especially Dafoe and Molina, part of me falls on the side of “just give me street level Spidey” with Scorpion and such.

I also hate how much Strange is in this trailer.

I'm a little confused by what people want when they say "street level" Spidey, partially because I feel like both previous movies were pretty personal, self-contained, ground-level stories, and it's not like comic Spidey is any stranger to higher-stakes adventures.

I feel like even with the multiverse shenanigans, this movie won't be any less centered around Spidey and his circle, and will have stakes appropriate to that.

Swinging through Manhattan fighting crime vs. going to Europe and being a Tony stark cosplay story.

To me, street level Spidey = the beginning montage in Homecoming when he's taking out street-level bank robbers, helping out citizens of NY, etc. Or the opening ASM2 fight.

Fighting against a classic villain like Mysterio is cool, but the way they went about it was wrong for me. They made it all about Tony Stark, AGAIN, and I don't love him being out of NY for the majority of the film.

There are definitely other nitpicks I could dive into more, but that's kind of a really high level of what bothered me.

I was already a little skeptical when it was announced after his Captain America, but his ASM really confirmed for me that Steve Lieber was the real star of Superior Foes.

(Speaking of Lieber, I still really need to get that Jimmy Olsen book he did with Matt Fraction.)

I feel like if you put Tom Holland in a street level Spider man I’d love it because really I just love him as Spider Man.

If the Charlie Cox rumors are true, I would really love a film of Spidey taking down Kingpin and his goons. I know we got that with Spider verse, but D'Onofrio is just so perfect for the role

I've actually written two full responses to this so far and deleted them both because I keep thinking of new angles. It's a complicated problem, I admit. The issue is that Iron Man was the first MCU hero, so it's inevitable that a lot of the conflict in the MCU is going to springboard from his involvement. It makes sense that Vulture and Mysterio came about because of things he did. Does it have to be that way? No, but frankly, I don't know that it really makes a whole lot of difference. It's a logical convenience.

As for Spider-Man, I get that people would rather him do everything on his own like in the comics, but as someone who has digested a lot of Spidey over his life so far, I'm totally okay with a version that has Iron Man as a mentor and is learning to come to terms with his own abilities and potential through that lens rather than on his own. To me, it's refreshing, and for me, it hasn't lessened the focus of his movies on his own growth. Just because things are related to Tony doesn't make it all about Tony. I feel like his character development has been his own.

Anyway, bottom line is I guess I do understand where people are coming from. I just disagree. And frankly, I also just think a straight up movie about Spidey busting neighborhood bank robbers for two hours would not really be all that interesting.

I’m also very okay with it and have even enjoyed the different take vs. the other two, but I certainly appreciate the criticism and don’t think it’s unfair.
