The Elektro bits are the weakest bit, with the voices in that one scene being a particularly rough choice. But, that's just one part of the score. The rest is really good. (And, I'd argue that part wasn't the Zimmer influence so much as the Junkie XL influence, which was also rough in BvS outside of the Wonder Woman theme). I feel like I feel the Hans Zimmer, Pharrell Williams, and Johnny Marr influence to varying degrees throughout most of the score when it becomes prominent, and the blend of those feels captures the Spider-Man personality sonically in a way none of the other movies have. It's all very catchy and pop, but with just enough classic superheroic weaved in. "I'm Spider-Man" sounds like a Romita-era action sequence, "You Need Me" sounds like the Romita-era crew hanging out at the Coffee Bean, and "We're Best Friends" sounds like a Spider-Man: Blue adaptation.
On Twitter, Lexi Alexander is talking about how Homecoming should've had Miles Morales. And while she doesn't give a crap about nerd canon, she did retweet my reply where I gave the same hypothetical Miles Homecoming outline I did here: Anyways, when it comes to reiterating obvious facts, the waste of high school Pete #3 is one I'm happy to not let go. That’s pretty cool. I recently found out she directed one of my favorite films: Green Street Hooligans.
Ooh. Mysterio? I actually think, visually, he could be a cool villain. I'd be intrigued to see where they go with it.
My favorite thing Mysterio related will probably always be from the Spiderman 2 video game, where he is giving his villain monologue while his health bar fills up only for you to defeat him with one punch instantly.
It’s a villain that makes sense. It would develop and improve Peters skill set and can be a interesting catalyst for character development as well
I can't see them keeping his face covered for a majority of the movie. I wonder how they'll do Mysterios costume
FUCK YES All I have ever wanted for a Spider-Man movie was to finally get Mysterio and I like Gyllenhaal. Totally all about this.
OH FRICK. I'm torn because I have some fundamental issues w/ the MCU's Spidey. I'd rather see my favorite Spidey villain in Enter the Spider-Verse (perfect fit considering Spider-Men comic), or even one of their weird live action projects. But, at the same time, live action Mysterio in any capacity FREAKING RULES. Plus, Tom Holland could have stellar chemistry w/ him. I will say that, if they don't go full classic Mysterio, I'll hate the film by default. There's a place for creative license (I really dug their Vulture), but nothing in Mysterio's costume doesn't work. You can nail the Ditko design, which is one of the best costumes in comic book history, without CGI w/ ease. And, the theatrics perfectly match the character.
Surely it isn’t going to be called Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. All for Jake Gylenhaal playing a villain though.
I've actually thought too much about this, tbh. (To no one's surprise, I'm sure, lol.) I think something like "Spring Break" (insert gif from Harmony Korine's film here) or "Summer Vacation" would work really well. The latter making more sense given the July release date. All I know is that the third film has to be called "Graduation."
But, really, committing to 3 corny, obvious high school related names would be one of this franchise's better decisions.
