The one thing I like about these action scenes, especially the boat, is that Spidey genuinely means well but is too cocky and clearly in over his head. The stupid high tech suit muddies that, and the clock tower in ASM2 did it better than any of these scenes, but they did communicate this being a 15-year-old really well. There's a real sloppiness and insecurity to everything he does. Also love this scene between Peter and May after he loses the suit, even though it's too short and ends on an awkward note. Just wish she'd mentioned Ben...
I wish Toomes' house had been more blue collar. Obviously Toomes is paying for it because he's been in the alien tech game for years, but the working class angle would've been even better with a house that clearly belongs to someone struggling to make ends meet. Granted, I didn't think of that the first time around, so whatever. Still love this whole sequence in the house and car.
This whole plane of Avengers equipment is so heavy handed that it's genuinely funny. I'm glad they went so excessive with this. Also, in terms of this Toomes working class monologue to Spidey: #VultureWasRight
The rubble scene is still fantastic besides his motivation being Stark instead of his family. One of my favorite moments in any Spider-Man film.
Why did Vulture take his helmet off before trying to fly away? Doesn't make real life sense, and having Peter take the helmet off after saving him would've been narratively stronger. Otherwise generally dig how the battle ended, even though it was a weirdly dull fight. Also like that the final Liz scene with Peter doesn't resolve neatly.
Still love the offered costume as a good Infinity War variant. Still hate that he gets this film's costume back at the end. Kinda wish they'd communicated Peter losing some trust and respect for Tony at the end, but redeeming Toomes at the end makes me happy. If they try some take on the Sinister Six/Syndicate in the third film, I hope they introduce Blackie Drago as a new Vulture, since it'd be a cool way to bring back Vulture without undoing what they did with the character here.
Imagine if they actually took that to where they should have. A really good movie coulda happened with that. Because he was saying what The Spidey I love usually does! He was right. Haha.
I hate that every Spidey film gets close to something great (to varying degrees), but none of them has nailed it. If you put this, ASM2, ASM, and SM2 in a blender, and then refined that product, you'd have my favorite comic book film. At least the animated Miles film should get it right!
Comic creators credited under "special thanks" at the end of the credits: Brian Michael Bendis, Ernie Colon, Don Heck, Jack Kirby, Larry Lieber, Dwayne McDuffie, Sara Pichelli, John Romita. So, the creators of Iron Man, Aaron Davis (Ultimate Prowler), and Damage Control. I think Romita Sr is also the co-creator of 616 Prowler. But, somehow, Spider-Man and Vulture co-creator Steve Ditko didn't get thanked. Wonder if he asked to have his name withheld. Still, loved seeing Pichelli and McDuffie on that list.
I've watched bits of the new Spider-Man cartoon on YouTube but haven't actively watched a full episode yet. Can't decide if I'd enjoy it enough, though I do love the animation style (kinda reminds me of Hannah Blumenreich's Spidey work) and the focus on science.
I like that I had a fair amount of negativity while watching this right now, but still decided to change my avatar to a character from the film after watching it. When it comes to Spidey films... Anyways, while the two ASM films are still my 2 favs, this is a strong #3 that laid the groundwork for what could be a very strong sequel. I know that I'm more excited for Lord & Miller's Miles film more than this one's sequel, and I might also be more excited for the Tom Hardy Venom film, but I have room in my heart for a lot of Spidey content. Ready for him in that suit in Homecoming, too.
You don't need to finish death note. You can stop about 7 episodes from the end and that's a better ending point
I don't get people that think stopping a show early is the way to go. Y'all read half a book and just go "ok, that's enough"? Nah, I wanna see what the artist/creator put together. I may not like the direction they go (I stopped thinking the show was going to be great after like 5 episodes), but I am at least interested in finding out unless I hate something so much I want to just quit it. Then I just stop.
I want to see more of those Captain America PSAs. I thought I remember reading they were going to be included as bonus content on the blu-ray.
Agreed. The last few episodes aren't bad by any means, they just aren't as compelling or exciting as the first half. I still enjoyed them to a degree. Good call on finishing it, the eps are so short anyways :)
The first joke they make about Marvel keeping Spider-Man in theaters until the fucking sun burns out of the sky made me choke on halloween candy.
Finally watched this and thought it was pretty fun. The ending was weird though. He doesn't really defeat the vulture in a fight, so he didn't really prove himself in the way I thought he would. The only reason the vulture fails is because of a technical fault with his wings, right? Idk, maybe I need to watch it again. I just thought it would've made more sense to give Spider-man a clearer victory considering the themes of the movie.
