Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7, 2017) Movie • Page 65

  1. I'd like to know how Spider-Man's fighting competence went down so drastically since fighting the Avengers.

Also, Toomes was right: Tony Stark is a villain.

  2. Aunt May is badly cast. Peter's relationship with her and everyone is one note. There's no dynamics to his personality. (Garfield nailed that.) Here it's just "everything is awesome and amazing and the most coolest thing I've ever seen!" Rinse. Repeat. The script was weak.

  3. The extreme tech in the Marvel world is just out of control. We can now just phase through matter, it's outta control.

  4. Just call him Ganke.

  5. Just pretending he doesn't have a Spider-Sense makes no damn sense at all.

  6. The suit being so tech focused and not created by Peter is a mistake. The simple homemade costumes as they slowly get upgraded by Peter make for great stories. The suit just being basically an Iron Man suit makes you wonder why it's not just an Iron Man suit. "Suit lady" is a poor stand in for Peter cracking jokes to himself.

  7. It was a good movie. It's not great. It's Marvel in everything they do. The Frosted Flakes of movies. No real risks, mediocre directors, and fine digestible movies for the masses. I prefer the movies that take big swings, at least they're swinging even if they don't always work.

Yeah they were all problems I had with it too.

  9. Seeing an Edgar Wright directed film and then this was unfair, but god damn did it make the director look inept in every way. Too much stand and talk and shoot them standing and talking.

The entire spider-drone, tracker, parachute stuff was wayyyyyy too much. Too many powers. The basics of Spider-Man is rarely gadgets. And now we have drones flying out from his chest and analyzing buildings and boats?! Didn't love that.

6 credited writers tends to not give the best scripts.

For that many writers I thought it was decent, but not a great script.

  11. You could tell there was a script and then someone(s) came in and added jokes.

  12. The swinging around NY helping people and doing stuff was a highlight. Loved that. Very well done.

    "Do a flip."

There being so many superheroes in NYC already I was worried about, that made it feel more real.

Agreed. I'm more positive on the movie than you, but I can't really disagree with your points. Which is pretty standard haha I enjoy it, but I'm under no illusion that this was the best MCU movie or anything. Standard Marvel, which works for me, though I do hope for better.

I liked it. I'll see it probably a whole lot over the next few years cause I'm me and it's Spidey. But I didn't **love** it and so many things felt like unforced errors. The climax itself just didn't work for me. The cloaked plane into a weak battle on the beach just didn't feel right. But there were at least a half dozen moments that were great and felt perfect.

But I didn't walk out going "holy shit yes."

  15. I seriously don't get going spider parachute and drones but no spider sense though.

Peters motivation being basically entirely to look good and suck up to Tony felt off as well, his sense of responsibility is a big part of the character and I get why they side-stepped it, but it felt missing. His motivation to impress Tony felt off to me. Him deciding what kinda hero he wants to be at the end was a good moment, coulda been better imo, and shoulda been a little more defiant and showcasing this drive for responsibility and the strong personality we know Peter has when SM brings it out of him.

  16. The suit metaphor was a good one. And his moment of "get up" was a real treat. I just still am gonna rag on the suit.

Loved seeing Bagley in the graffiti. Seeing as he was my favorite artist growing up, that little easter egg was amazing to me.

  17. I like Mj. I like the new friends. The rogues gallery being set up I'm not sold on. The Spidey/Prowler scene was kinda fun, in a nerd way.

Death kill mode didn't feel fun.

Had some issues with the boat scene.

Yeah, I agree with almost all of that, point by point. This was certainly solid, but I find it hard to praise it.

Did anyone else find the pacing of the film odd? I couldn't put my finger on it but it felt like the film was very slow. A lot seemed to happen at a snails pace. But then the last 30/40 minutes seemed quite rushed, seemed like a lot was cut out of the homecoming scene for example.

This is really the biggest example of showing too much in the trailers. I felt like I had seen a lot of the movie while I was watching it the first time.

When they're talking about the trip to D.C. and Peter says he's not going, my thought was "of course you're going, you jump off the Washington Monument in the trailer."

When Toomes says he doesn't want the high altitude vacuum seal, my thought was "oh, that's why you and Spidey fight on that plane"

I really liked the film, but as I've thought about it since seeing it that's what has been on my mind the most. Kinda felt like the whole movie was just connecting the dots from the trailer.

yeah after sleeping on this.... i have this behind Wonder woman and guardians. While this was certainly fine and the new spiderman dude is definitely solid, i didn't find it to be anything other than just 'another marvel' comic book movie. Wonder Woman had a very unique, distinct look to it, and guardians made me laugh many times.

Marvel can make these things in their sleep at this point

I thought this was better than any DC film, even though WW was good.
