Can't fuckin' wait to see this. I think I'm gonna go early morning on Saturday or something.

Glad to hear RDJ isn't in this as much as the trailers have led me to believe.

    My thoughts about Spider-Man movies.

    Spider-Man was awful. Spider-Man 2 was awful. Spider-Man 3 was nearly unwatchable.

Amazing Spider-Man was moderate at best. Amazing Spider-Man 2 was mostly bad.

    Spider-Man Homecoming - TBA

I think I'm going to love it but the discussion in here has me worried. Peter Parker is a huge part of the Spider-Man story, as is any superheroes personal life although I'd argue someone like his maters more. I don't want to be the whole movie though. I understand it's the first movie and they have to set things up in the MCU and what not I just don't wanna leave not liking Spider-Man in the MCU. I also don't wanna leave and feel like I didn't get enough of Spider-Man kicking some super villain ass. Character development of Peter is huge but I don't want it to be everything and I'm kinda getting that vibe.

Maybe I'm way off who knows.

All I want by the end of this movie is

A well executed and developed Peter Parker (we haven't seen that yet in any movies imo most of them were rushed or just bad taste in the creative freedom aspect)

Spider-Man to get a better grasp of his powers

Spider-Man to still be the little friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. I'm worried that in the MCU they'll push him to big things too fast. Obviously I want him to be a part of big events but I don't want him always fighting with the Avengers right away. I want him protecting NYC.

    Spider-Man to kick ass.

Better villains from a Spider-Man movie and the MCU

    A good START!

I could go on forever. I truly am in love with the MCU but I do have some problems with it. I hope this is a successful movie and trilogy for the MCU. (Hoping we get more than a trilogy because they can do so much with Peter and I don't want it to be rushed. Them rushing things is a huge problem I have with the MCU)

I'm seeing it tomorrow so I'll definitely be posting in here afterwards.

I feel like I'm going to be disappointed with some of the character changes they made for Peter, I think his identity as a human is just as important as Spider-Man, if not more. Peter should be shown as a genius capable of developing his own tech, should have spider sense, be able to track down crime, be comfortable with being independent and a lone hero etc. Not to mention all the side characters in his life playing a huge role.

However, it does seem like this "version" of PP is done very well from what I'm reading, so I believe I'll still really enjoy is as a superhero flick, and I'm still more excited about this film than any superhero movie in years. So can't wait to go tomorrow night, wish I could've gone tonight.

You're Boston based right? Where are you seeing it? I just moved to Natick Center so the Framingham AMC is actually a 5 minute drive from me. Kind psyched because previously living in Brighton made getting to the Commons theater a 20-30 minute train ride, or a busy drive to busy Assembly Row.

Unless you're not in the Boston area and I am completely thinking of someone else.

I'm actually about an hour north of Boston by the southern NH seacoast, but close :). I'm seeing it near Portsmouth in a Regal Cinema, I love the place because they have the electric leather recliners and beer heh. Just didn't want to see a movie on a work night, but it took a lott of restraint not to :p

I'm wondering if the MCU folks thought that with Hulk, Iron-Man, and Dr. Strange, there was already too many geniuses floatin' around.

Lucky you! I love Portsmouth. My GF and I spend a long weekend in Portland every summer and always stop in at Portsmouth on the way home.

Yeah, it's a great area! Lots of really cool restaurant and bars everywhere. I haven't really spent much time in Portland before, I'll have to check it out.

Yeah I kinda get that sense too. I actually read a review from the Times that really made me cringe- said something along the lines of "..he's no genius (see Banner)..."

plus Hank Pym. i hope not because Peters intelligence is a big factor in his character. its not made a big deal of in this film but there are some lines that kinda point towards Peter being the same ol braniac hes always been.

in my head i wish Age Of Ultron had Pym, Banner, Stark, Reed Richards, and maybe Peter there when Ultron was created just because id like to watch them all banter off each other as the "geniuses" of the Avengers

As a scientist, I love putting science and technology at the forefront of these heroes. I personally can never get enough of it, and I think it's great for younger kids to see that these heroes are what they are partly due to their drive for knowledge.

  17. Raimi created an atmosphere of awe and wonder comparable to Raiders of the Lost Ark and Richard Donner's Superman with his first two Spider-Man films.

No one can take that away from him and I doubt another director will come close to that.

He also set a new standard for superhero movies when there weren't none. Its easy to look back and criticize now, but back when no one was doing what he did it was great.

  23. I can guess people's ages pretty well based on their superhero movie takes. Being 12-15 when those movies came out and having them be the first exposure to a character, or it being an early action adventure movies, makes sense. Being 18ish, and having already spent most of my childhood with a character in various forms, and obsessed with action/adventure movies and the cartoons and the comics and the really early movies ... all I saw was how wrong they got it.

Or just being a comic book fan. Before Rami's Spiderman movies we got like one every 3 years and if they were bad, that's all we got for another 3 years.
