A good example: The Mummy. I still want to see it. But based on RT and reading/ listening to reviews, it didn't sound like its something I needed to see in theaters. I'll red box it and probably enjoy some of it, but it's not something I should drop $11 on.
SO much better than the two ASM films and almost as good as the 2nd Sam Rami film. I'm glad Stark isn't in this as much as the trailers made it out to be. Had a blast
I should probably add I got to see an early screening lol. Friend from high school hooked me up. It was pretty neat
I understand that RT isn't the end all be all, but aside from just looking at the percentage scores there are 4 or 5 specific critics I go there for and read reviews from that I have learned are generally similar in taste with what I like.
got advance tix for Thurs night/late afternoon. i'm excited! i think my theater is gonna be serving beer/wine soon
Best Spider-Man movie for me (and I like something about all of them to date.. despite 3 being a struggle!). Tom Holland is a perfect Spider-Man. So much fun to watch him.
Just purchased tickets for a Sunday afternoon showing (1:15) in 2D IMAX. Was going to wait until the following weekend, but then I remembered that's when War for the Planet of the Apes is released and I'll be seeing that opening weekend for sure.
It really really bothered me Spider-Man was way better in civil war imo. The Audi scene was just a tragic waste of time imo It didn't make me dislike the film there were just aspects I did not like as a Spider-Man fan.
I liked him about as much in this movie. It kinda doesn't feel like a Spider-Man movie at times, more like a "Civil War:Aftermath" movie but that doesn't bother me too much because it's something different. I wish there was more high flying web slinging and stuff but I'm really happy with what we got.
I think it was a fine Peter Parker film but not an amazing Spider-Man film. I liked the references, the Tinkerer, Prowler, Scorpion and I like that they acknowledged Miles existence. I didn't like them making Ned into Ganke though. It was a very funny film and Vulture was very threatening. I get they wanted Spider-Man to be in over his head but I think they went too far at times to make him a fuck up and in doing so they didn't include a lot of things I like about Spider-Man as a character. It was a good solid film that lays the groundwork for a great sequel. Which is something I seem to be saying a lot about MCU films.
Is there anything MJ/Gwen Stacy related in the movie? Something I don't mind knowing before seeing it.
Yes I do agree with all that. The references were fun. there's definitely a lot of groundwork being laid for a sequel and I guess we'll see how that goes. It'll probably be great. I also agree that they probably went a little too far in making Spider-Man feel so.....inadequate compared to everyone else. I wish they'd let him have more triumphant moments [\spoiler]
There is something MJ related but it's not really MJ? Basically there's a love interest named Michelle Jones but she goes by "MJ" so that's kinda the nod towards her [\spoiler]
I can't wait to see it again. one thing I really like that the MCU does is put heavy consequences in their universe. Both "The Battle Of NYC" and "The Civil War" are referenced and have such weight to them. The Serkovia Accords as well as what took place in Serkovia are also mentioned in this movie. It's just interesting watching the meta fiction keep moving forward and having all the movies/shows carry real consequences and real effects. This movie references some of these events and the fallout from them and I'm glad that it feels connected. I wish Dr Strange had more of that in it but I'm sure that will come in time.
Something that bothered me. Tony fought for the Sokovia accords. Which were about accountability by superhumans and is cool with Peter going around masked in NYC? He also planned a press conference to introduce him as the newest avenger. Was he going to introduce him as Spider-Man, Peter Parker or fly in the face of what he fought for in Civil War and let him stay masked?
