Um... Well... Sorry, but... Deadpool's costume is literally an intentional imitation of Spidey's that Rob Liefeld created because Todd McFarlane would joke about how much easier it was to draw Spidey than it was to draw Liefeld's pouch-covered character designs. Also, Spidey cracked jokes in the comics before Deadpool's creator was even born, and his films (especially the ASM films) did this type of humor before the Deadpool film materialized. No offense, you can like what you like, etc., but you have what influenced what so backwards that it's honestly comical to me. lol.
This has some of the same details that I hated on Holland's costume, but honestly, I don't hate this. I'd rather see them just use something more traditional, but it's an interesting amalgamation of a variety of different costumes he's had in different media over the years. It kinda reminds me of the costume from Garfield's first film in that it tweaks the costume in ways that are totally unnecessary and shouldn't have happened, but I still weirdly dig the outcome. If this ends up being a more experienced Spidey who gradually upgraded his costume himself into something like his current comic book look, I'm at peace with it. On a related note, I'm not into gaming besides dabbling in like Mario and whatnot, but part of me is tempted to try this game out, lol. I forget if I have any friends with a PS4, but if so, I might rent this game and spent a day or two with it.
I just think the white looks so bad, ha. Plus it has those dumb black bars. Other than his outfit I'm very excited for the game.
You don't like it? I dig what I saw so far, super excited for the game as well! I think they did the white spider symbol to set it apart and avoid confusion that it doesn't tie into anything and is stand alone.
I can see why they maybe did it but I still think it looks awful. I'd much rather have a more traditional costume.
Thanks for the history lesson. Are you the comic book guy from the Simpsons by chance? Do you enjoy talking down to people? I'm not talking about Spider-Man overall relative to Deadpool. I'm talking this specific suit looks like they took Deadpool's suit from the movie and gave it the Spidey look. Many Marvel movies have had the comedy/action thing going on, but I was trying to say this seems to be selling the comedy aspect more in the trailers similar to Deadpool. I may be wrong there, but that's what I was trying to say. I'm not the biggest comic book person, but I'm well aware that Spidey came before Deadpool.
Simpsons comic book guy? Sick burn. *eye roll* And they are selling the comedy more because the most consistent complaint from fans in the past is that previous Spideys didn't quip the way he did in the comics. This is an attempt to show a skeptical audience why a new spider-man was justified. To show that THIS is finally the spider-man from the comics. They did the same thing promoting Spidey in the trailers for Civil War. It was always going to be the strongest pitch for this new Spider-Man.
To be fair, when it comes to Spider-Man, I totally am the guy from the Simpsons, except more self aware and better hygiene. I literally just made fun of my out Spidey nerdiness in the comic book thread, lol. But, yeah, still a ridiculous comment to make. Sorry. But even without comic knowledge, it is. *shrug*
Yeah the quips sound very much in line with Garfield's Spiderman. That has nothing to do with Deadpool.
The friendly neighborhood scenes in the trailer totally could've been in either ASM film. And also could've been in any classic or modern Spidey comic.
I'd probably quibble with "very". But he was certainly more than Maguire. And they tried to emphasize that when selling those movies, too. Though not quite as forcefully. But it was still a point of emphasis. Which brings me to the other selling point to the new Spider-Man: that he was actually a teenager and not in his 30's pretending to be a teenager. Basically, they are saying "it's everything you liked about ASM, but with the age corrected and integrated in the mcu!"
I'm hoping Peter makes his own costume at the end of the movie that doesn't include anything talking to him.
Dammit. Is Uncle Ben dead again? Lol I'm kidding. Too many trailers with too much plot these days for sure.
Yea, I should not have watched. I know better. I let my curiosity get the best of me. Sometimes the international will have a couple extra shots, this has way more new dialogue and shots.
So I have plans with @Jason Tate to cover this and likely the two ASM movies on my podcast. In the meantime, we did a part one of the Spidey related series. I put a bunch of podcast chapters in for those who may just be into the animated show and not the comics and vice versa. Welcome To Geekdom Episode 032: Spidey Extravaganza Part 1
