While I thought the plot was kinda blah, I did like how this movie isn't just set up for the next Marvel movie.
Civil War is one of those movies that I really loved in theatres that is harder to watch outside that atmosphere. I still really love a bunch of it but it's not one I really want to go back to outside of those parts I loved. Ant-Man and Cap 1 are better in that regard even though they aren't as 'big'. I assume Doctor Strange will suffer outside the theatre as well unless I'm looking for something to do on a trip, even though it has lots to like about it as well.
@Jason Tate Even though we won't be doing it for a few months, I already feel like our Spidey movie podcast might upset a few people haha. Which I'm 100% fine with because obviously not everyone will have the same opinion on them.
I don't really like either Avengers movie and am glad Joss Whedon is done with the franchise. First one is...okay...I guess...as a big spectacle where they all come together for the first time. I simply don't happen to find Whedon's sense of humor very funny and I don't think he's a good film director. I like Buffy and Firefly just fine, but I think that's because the smaller screen is where Whedon shines and belongs. Controversial opinion I guess?
I wish they had the "laying down with music" Homecoming poster in something more high-resolution. I can only find the "on the A" one in anything over 5000x2880 to make a good 5k wallpaper.
Haha. Is it July yet? I normally don't rewatch stuff, but I will be for that podcast just because I would be bad at talking about the movies without doing so.
Ah, I thought as such. I started to reply but realized which thread I was in. But, I agree! Although I don't think the plot was blah, it just wasn't the point. It was character driven, not plot driven. The plot was exactly what it needed to be for the movie.
I would need to watch Civil War again to see if I agree about its quality (loved it the first time). That said, I think the scene with Peter/Tony in Peter's bedroom nails the character more than any of the other Spider-Man movies.
I like Civil War more than any Spider-Man movie, but Spidey is far from my favorite part of the movie. Tom Holland is the perfect Ditko- and Bendis-inspired high school Peter, but that's never been my preferred Peter. In spite of being in high school, Andrew Garfield has been the best at capturing the Romita era's vibe, which makes his movies easily the best source of cinematic Spidey fun for me. Still, Holland is way better than Tobey Maguire, who I'll never tire of bashing, lol. So dang bad. Revisiting both those movies and classic comics in recent years just proves to me even more how bad he is in the role and how nostalgia-fueled his fan base must be.
Agreed 100%. Though I did enjoy TAS1, Holland is the first in the movie world to ever get me looking forward to a Spider-Man movie.
Honestly I think Garfield is closer to the Ultimate Peter Parker too. Tom's Peter Parker is much more mild mannered and polite.
Re: the clip Why does he still not look "attached" to the wall? He glides over it and it's weird and kinda bugs me. Why would his Spidey-Sense not tell him Ganke is sitting there doing Legos? Why not just call him Ganke, I mean come on.
