Liev Schreiber Says Animated Spider-Man Movie Will Satisfy "Hardcore" Fans Sounds like you may get your wish! But I do have to say that Spiderman 1, 2 and the first Amazing Spiderman are still great films.
Still find it weird how much of a pass Marvel gets for their bad choices and yet Sony gets vilified no matter what.
I wish Shamiek Moore was playing live-action Miles. He's such a perfect casting I can't believe I didn't think of it. The creative team for the animated movie have me hopeful the movie will be great though. At the very least, it'll be a Spider-Man I can show to my 6 year old sister as the big Marvel movies are a bit violent for her.
Our very different general views on Marvel Studios aside, I agree that Sony vilification is weird, and I also cannot stress enough how insane it is for anyone to not be 100% all in on an animated Miles Spider-Man film from Lord & Miller. If we're gonna average 3 superhero films every 4 months next year, we gotta get a wide range of styles and tones to justify that, and letting some Marvel properties exist outside of the MCU juggernaut is the best way to accomplish that.
Whose not excited for animated Spiderman? Anyone here also like the MTV CGI 1 season Spiderman show? I always thought that was cool too for its time. But Marvel gets a pass because their worst is still enjoyable and Sony did Spiderman 3 and Amazing Spiderman 2. It's as simple as that.
I still like ASM2 more than the Thor movies and IM3. I haven't seen Spider-Man 3 in a long time but remember disliking it as much as everyone else.
t There was a post earlier about a distrust of Sony leading to that user having no excitement for the animated film.
I still like both ASM2 and IM3 a lot more than a lot of people seem to. Have revisited and quite enjoyed both lately; with the barrage of comic book films we get now, desire to rewatch something and enjoyment of said film plays really heavily in my personal rankings.
Oh. IMO animated films (both marvel and DC) typically are better because they seem to stick to the comic stories more. For some reason with animation the need to do a origin story or explain every little thing isn't there and they usually just jump right into the story.
Since the news of some higher up, likely Perlmutter, interfered w/ IM3, it's become a little bittersweet to watch. I'm pretty sure there would've been one more twist with Rebecca Hall's character being the ultimate mastermind; her rocking out Extremis in the third act and getting taken out by Pepper would've been so cool. Still, I've come to appreciate Shane Black's fingerprints all over the film more and more. That movie brings a distinct flavor that I think helped pave the way for GOTG and hopefully also is present in Thor: Ragnarok. It's really cemented itself as one of my favorite MCU films.
After my rewatch of the Spiderman films I like ASM2 and Spiderman 3 a lot more than most people do. ASM2 is my favourite Spider-Man film and i don't really think Homecoming will change that. I'm interested in the Miles Morales film just because i really like that character and his stories but for some reason I'm just not that into animated superhero stuff.
I think I have the fewest major complaints w/ ASM, but I might be in the same camp in terms of ASM2 being my favorite. It's flaws are abundant and significant, but what it does right just happens to connect with what I love about the character in the best ways. And, I likewise don't currently expect Homecoming to outdo it for me, though if the out-of-costume stuff (which we've barely seen) is strong enough, that'll go a long way.
I made it like 45 minutes into Dark World before I just started playing on my phone and leaving it running while I'd go get another beer. One of the worst movies I've ever seen.
The last battle is the only decent part of Dark World! The fighting through different portals was actually pretty cool and inspired. Bland movie otherwise.
Thor 2 is one of the only MCU movies I still haven't seen. Along with Incredible Hulk and Dr. Strange
I think Thor 2 is the only MCU movie I flat out didn't like. A couple others aren't my favorite but I enjoyed the rest to some extent.
Thor: Dark World is sorta the opposite of ASM2 for me: The latter did a lot right but also messed up a lot, while the former didn't actively mess very much up but also didn't do much actively right. Like, when I see Dark World, I don't see many specific moments where I think to myself, "That was really bad," but the film as a whole just doesn't do much to get me excited, either. If I happen to see it, I'm generally entertained, but it's mostly just... there. I do really like the whole main cast, a lot of the funnier moments, and the general mythos, which has me very excited for what Taika Waititi is gonna do with Ragnarok. I fully expect to love that one.
