How the character is written is irrelevant to the physical appearance of the character (regarding to the character of MJW). The physical appearance is in correlation to the comic and other media (films, cartoons) in which she looked almost identical to her comic counterpart.
Yeah it is, that's why I'm still looking forward to the movie. As long as MJW acts like MJW then I don't care who plays her.
Calling the change "needless" is calling representation in media "needless," which couldn't possibly be less true. There's a time when I would have been unhappy with this. I'm so glad that time is now gone.
I just started reading some Spiderman comics after years of being too intimidated to try, ha. Started at the beginning of Ultimate and the end of Amazing with the death of Doc Oc because Superior Spiderman sounded super interesting to me.
Yea definitely not needless. I enjoy when mcu shakes up the casting. I wish they could be this wise about all their choices. Wasted opportunities with the iron fist and the ancient one from DS.
Nice. A few recs: Spider-Man: Blue (Probably my favorite Spider-Man comic. Tells the story of the Lee/Romita era Peter/Gwen/MJ love triangle with gorgeous art by Tim Sale.) Kraven's Last Hunt (In the discussion for best Spider-Man story. It actually started as a potential Batman story and definitely feels like it, but taking Spidey through that journey is much more satisfying. At least for me.) Spider-Men (Peter and Miles meet and take on Mysterio. Great art by Sara Pichelli. Starting at the beginning with Miles might be more rewarding in some ways, but if you barely know either character, it can also work as a nice introduction to both. Big action and great dialogue.)
Has Keaton been confirmed as the Vulture too? I'm more worried about the portrayal of that villain than anything else.
I was planning on reading Blue at some point and Spider-Men whenever I've got to the Miles stuff in Ultimate, ha. Never heard of Kraven's Last Hunt so I'll definitely check that out.
I don't think she'd look good with red hair, I hope they don't try and dye it. Just leave it as is. The casting in CBMs have been really great all around (even if you don't like the films) so I have faith even though she's only been in Disney shows I think.
They are finding small-budget indie directors like Taika Waititi and Jon Watts to direct big budget blockbusters. Hell, Patty Jenkins has only directed one feature film and is now directing Wonder Woman. Given that, I'm not sure why everyone is worried about Zendaya's experience as an actress. Lack of experience has served the blockbuster film machine very well lately.
I googled her real quick before posting and only saw her with dark brown lol. She pulls it off more than I thought she would.
Is that really her with red hair? I'm not too familiar with the actress but I think she looks great with it. I'm totally on board
Yeah that's totally her! All the reports before hand were saying that MJ would be an end of movie reveal type thing, and seeing as Zendaya looks like this on set. I'm expecting her to be kinda relegated to the background while Peter crushes on another girl, then at the end of the movie she shows up with red hair and grabs Peters attention. Kinda fits the "high school" vibe they keep describing.
Gunn Defends MJ Casting Rumor, Considered Diverse Actors for Star-Lord (I kinda wish this would just get officially confirmed or debunked, lol. I love this dialogue and think it's important, but it's also funny that we're discussing something so much that isn't even confirmed.)
Tbh I can't believe it took this long to make Aunt May a bit younger. When I was 16, a few of my aunts were Marisa Tomei's age, maybe younger
Apparently, an alleged casting sheet "leaked" on Reddit claims that Tiffany Espensen is playing someone named "Cindy." I've been following comic book movie "news" too long to put too much stock in that, and even if true, it could just be an Easter egg. But, I really, really want a certain Spider-Man character named Cindy in the MCU and have been asking for her since basically day one, lol, so I'm still gonna hope it's real. It's worth noting that this alleged casting sheet still lists Zendaya as "Michelle."

Shit I hope she does her own thing with the character that we've never seen before, cause Mary Jane is the most boring damsel in distress character ever. Not to mention Kirsten Dunst didn't do anything with the character. Good luck to her!
I never know if these "surprise" castings are really meant for cheap advertising or they really intend on adding something to the character. Anyways. No one freaked out when they announced Tony Revolori as Flash.
