Michael Chernus cast as Phineas Mason/the Tinkerer Michael Chernus Joins Spider-Man: Homecoming As One Of The Villains | Deadline Guess this confirms what the toy panel said, that the villains are the Vulture, Shocker and Tinkerer.
If Shocker and Tinkerer aren't bit-characters I'll be shocked (no pun intended). We've seen how disastrous 3 villains in a movie can be.
At least Raimi was able to derive a focus and subplot from existing villains in the Spiderman universe. Seems like the only way anyone thinks they can create a Spiderman conflict is if they cram as many villains as possible. I'll remain hopeful, but i'm in disbelief Marvel wants to go the route in which BOTH previous trials failed at.
Too many villains is a myth. The problem is too many plots, which can happen without too many villains. Shocker and Tinkerer don't have to have back stories to be good additions to the film. Heck, you could through a couple more c-list Spidey villains in and still not weigh down the film at all.
In all honesty, I'm not that familiar with the Tinkerer. I'm really excited to see Vulture and Shocker though.
Yup. Instead of Spidey beating up random street thugs, he can just as easily beat up a few costumed characters.
A random scene of him taking out Boomerang would make me so very happy. I'd see this film multiple times just for that.
The argument of being able to over crowd a movie never made sense to me. The lord of the Rings and (the good) xmen films had how many characters and worked fine? I agree with the above that if you're going to have minor characters in the movie to move along the plot, why not make them characters from the books instead of a "no name thug" or "guy at the office" as a nod for fans. The average movie goer won't notice or care either way.
This is a good point and what I meant really. It's when there are too many strands of the story that it ruins the flow.
It's being reported that Bokeem Woodbine is the one playing The Shocker. Is the Shocker Coming to 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'? I really thought Logan Marshall-Green would be playing him, but we'll see from here. Not that it matters. I'm excited in general about the cast. Gotta think more villains might be involved than we initially expected.
Damn. Yeah I get ya, there is definitely so much great stuff coming our way, but Spidey will just always be my absolute favorite.
