Something to remember is that technically, in that convoluted comic-book-y way, One More Day didn’t happen in current canon. As in, it did, but part of what it erased was itself. So, when Peter thinks back, he doesn’t remember anything with Mephisto. What he remembers is the events of One Moment in Time (which is a pretty decent comic in spite of being written by Quesada dealing with One More Day aftermath, just because it’s mostly drawn by the amazing Paolo Rivera). Which is, all those stories where he & MJ were married happened with them dating instead (boo), & then when he revealed his identity in Civil War, it was a complicated coordinated effort between Strange, Tony, & Reed to undo that. (Plus, a couple other small tweaks.) That’s what exists in the 616 timeline. Personally, I’d prefer none of that in the movies. But, the die is already cast as far as Jameson revealing his identity & Strange being in the sequel. It’s happening, one way or another. Which is why I’m rooting for most of the film’s story not really involving Strange at all. Just go deep into a Back in Black type story, with everyone after Peter & his loved ones. Give him a victory over the villains on his own terms, without the aid of magic. And then, after that, throw out some Strange thing that puts the identity back publicly (so we’re not stuck with that forever) without undoing the experiences he just had with those characters.
Yeah almost nothing from this creative team handling Spidey is interesting to me but I’m especially not into this
(To be honest, instead of Strange, my dream solution to the identity problem would be a Jameson character arc. Make him kind of a villain like in the Ditko days, give him & Peter a heart to heart like in the Zdarsky run, & then have him personally come out to Peter & Spidey’s defense with a redaction & counterargument. But, Strange is already confirmed, so...)
Gonna laugh so hard at all these posts when he has like one or two scenes where they meet and Strange gives him advice and he’s barely in it longer than he was in Ragnarok.
We took care of everything we needed to take care of there in Endgame & Far From Home. Having two Spidey films dealing with Tony’s death would just be egregious, lol.
I don’t think super low key guest cameos inherently stink. I just have no reason, after two MCU Spidey films, to have any sort of high hopes. But, good creatives could incorporate a fun surprise cameo without it weighing down the film.
I agree with most of you in thinking it will only feature Strange at the beginning and the end. I mean, if I was Peter I would definitely head to the sanctum Santorum to figure out what to do so it would be believable. I also hope the movie remains Peter heavy and has him dealing with the villain on his own with not much “spiderverse” involved. Ideally, if Tobey, Andrew and other spiderverse appear it’s not until the last minute or a end credit, which will lead into a Spiderverse film.
Given what they went through together in Infinity War and Endgame it would honestly be weird if Peter and Strange DIDN’T have some kind of a relationship
A tweet reminded me of this Doctor Strange moment, written by Donny Cates: If we must get this dang crossover, at least throw this in there, please.
I just want a fucking good normal Spider-Man movie, I was lowkey kind of happy when this was out of the MCU because it meant no more forced crossovers
The source is apparently DanielPRK Tom Hardy’s Venom May Crossover Into The MCU In Spider-Man 3 - Gruntstuff
I trust his scoops a little more than most online superhero scoopers’, but until we hear more, I’m not buying his unconfirmed Spidey 3 stuff. The vibe I’m getting is that he’s got a lot of half-information that’s getting twisted by this whole Spider-Verse fan theory. That being said, I’m obviously in support of Venom & Spidey meeting. Don’t know if Sony can force their non-Marvel Studios characters into their mainline Spidey series, but that crossover in whatever form someday will certainly make me happy.
I don’t want this to include Venom, Tobey or Andrew. Hopefully marvel/sony don’t get carried away and put a multiple movie story in 1 film
I will say that, between Spider-Verse, Strange (in anything more than a Ragnarok-sized role), & Venom, I think Venom could organically fit into the story teased by FFH’s ending. Not hard imagining a street level journalist character looking into this whole Spidey situation (even though he was in San Fran when we last saw him). But, yeah, between the identity thing, Electro, & Strange, there’s probably not enough oxygen left to let a Venom crossover breath like it should. I’m personally a big proponent of that happening in Venom 3. I do think, without knowing how Venom 2 plays out, throwing Shriek into Spidey 3 would be fun. Not in a major role, but just as another criminal who happens to be after Spidey.
