When I’m criticizing Tobey’s big emotional scenes, what I’m criticizing are those couple infamous moments where he overacts himself into a meme when you’re not supposed to be laughing. You know, like that train face. (Which, I know, is one of the many Spider-Man topics we’re doomed to repeat around here ‘til we’re dead, lol.) Most Raimi scenes he’s good in (though, again, I don’t think he’d work in a non-Raimi Spidey film). I like how he shows affection, disappointment, etc., & also how he works in Raimi’s comedic bits. It’s just that occasional exaggerated face at the wrong time that always ends up tripping me up. My favorite live action Peter & Spidey as a whole is still Andrew. Though, I can’t quite agree with @TEGCRocco post because I do like Tobey more than what we’ve gotten out of Tom’s Peter so far. I do believe that Tom has it in him to be a great Peter, maybe even my new favorite, in the right film. When he struggled to choose between MJ & heroism in the highly overrated FFH, I was like, “yeah, that is Spider-Man.” The problem, as y’all have heard me say way too many times, is he’s way too “golly gee whiz Mister Stark I sure do hope I can make you proud!” Not enough responsibility. Not enough tension between him & the world around him. He’s too puppy dog, in a way Peter never should be. My gosh do I hope, between Stark’s death & this whole identity story they’ve set up, that he finally feels right to me.
Holland’s co-stars and villains are the best things about his Spider-Man, tbh. Ned and Michelle are great while Mr. Harrington usually makes me laugh. Keaton as Vulture and Gyllenhaal as Mysterio are amazing castings as well.
Michael Keaton Vulture got close to Alfred Molina Doc Ock for me. Really liked him. I dislike almost everything about Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio.
The illusion sequence with Spidey was perfect and pretty much everything else with Mysterio was bad bad bad. Not Gyllenhaal's fault
I do need to revisit Spider-Man 3 sometime soon. Really funny movie, & Sandman genuinely rules. Funny enough, a few days before the Jamie Foxx news, I did think to myself that Sony should bring back Thomas Haden Church. Was reading some of the 90s Silver Sable & the Wild Pack, which is fine disposable comics that I like a lot out of nostalgia, & thinking how easy a good Silver Sable film would be. And, Sandman (who was good at the time) was on her team. Since they already brought back the iconic Jameson & poorly utilized Electro, might as well also revive this Sandman, who I think even SM3 haters generally like, in a supporting role.
Andrew Garfield has always talked about the original cut of the film vs the one we saw. This was like the og Synder cut conpiracy. He's mentioned it a few times, I wonder what it looks like.
Based on all those deleted scenes we got from it, I honestly can’t tell if it would’ve doubled down on the good or the bad of the film. There’s a lot with Gwen that got cut (most of it small, but it really would’ve added up in a good way), & also a couple pretty significant Harry parts. Adding those back in while cutting crap like the Aunt May subplot would’ve made a world of difference. But... there’s also a couple more awkward Electro scenes, & Peter’s dad coming back at the end, lol. I’ll say this: It’s hard to imagine literally any other cut being worse, lol. Especially since some of the obviously tacked on ADR has also stuck out more to me over the years where scenes should’ve been left room to breath. Depending on how the Snyder Cut goes, between that & the return of Jamie Foxx, maybe we need to mobilize Spider-Man Twitter for #ASM2WebbCut, lol. I would shamelessly lend my Twitter to that cause.
So much of ASM2 is bad that it needs rewriting more than re-cutting. None of his parents, rewrite Electro/Aunt May/Harry and don’t kill Gwen, and yes, I’ll cede that pieces are there for a potentially good movie
I disagree. The pieces are all in there, underneath ...a whole lot of other stuff that’s also there. (Excited to have this disagreement again in the next Spider-Man movie thread, lol. )
Potential title/villain spoilers: Take this with a massive grain of salt, but 4chan leaks seem to indicate that the title of the next one will be Spider-Man: Home Invasion. Villains will be the Sinister Six, comprised of Vulture, Mysterio, Scorpion, Shocker, Electro, and Kraven. Not sure I believe it.
Yeah, in the same "leak" they said that Captain Marvel 2 would be Captain Marvel: Secret Invasion, and I just don't see them going with two "Invasion" titles over the course of a couple years.
Whether there’s a proper Sinister Six in this next one or not, I just really hope it has multiple villains. Movies like SM3 & ASM2 really broke people’s brains as far as “too many villains” goes, even though that’s a myth created by nerds who are bad at talking about story, lol. Really want a deep bench of rogues who can pop in & out of these Sony Marvel films, just like in the comics.
Gamora's death leaked onto 4chan in December 2017. With Spider-Man filming in a month or two, I wouldn't immediately toss out the possibility of it being a scoop.
Daniel is pretty frequent with correct spoilers (he is one of the few that the subreddit actually pays attention to)...so this is interesting.
IF anything, I'm sure it wouldn't be more than a mere cameo or so. IF ANY of this is true then Marvel is really deciding to take risks now that they are done with the Infinity Saga.
