Yeah I was thinking I might throw it on this weekend while I'm around the apartment. I just didn't want to spend time and money to see it in theaters.

Everything w/ the glasses, particularly the accidental hit on the classmate, was awful, as was the scene where Pete has to undress for the agent. All the action sequences w/ the Elementals were dull & lifeless, too, even by big budget standards.

I would have been far more interested in that movie if they just had Mysterio be the obvious villain from the beginning (not that it wasn't already obvious for fans)

The whole illusion sequence with Spiderman was perfect, almost everything else was super forgettable

Yep. Make Mysterio the villain from the beginning and have Hydro Man instead of the water elemental.

The strengths of this series have been the casting & some of Jon Watts' more ridiculous comedic sensibilities. The constant biggest weakness (outside of prioritizing the MCU over classic Spidey vibes, which is a little more subjective of a complaint) has been the action.

Just, please, please, lean more into MJ & the rest of his school peer group w/in the context of actual school, & stop sidelining Aunt May. And, do more of that actual NYC web-slinging as seen at the end of this film. I'll tolerate a lot of what I don't like if you give me enough of what I like (see: ASM2).

I have a feeling alot of what people didn't like/want changed will happen in Spider-Man 3.

I will be surprised if we don't get a Spidey swinging through NYC like people have been complaining about all along, but I still don't hold much hope that they can salvage his character

I'll still go to see it the night it comes out, of course

I can't believe I'm about to technically disagree w/ a complaint about this version of Spider-Man, lol. But, like, as much as I genuinely think this has been so far, overall, the most wrong cinematic Peter Parker in the most frustrating ways...

    The pieces are all there.

I don't like this characterization of Pete as a puppy dog fanboy instead of someone w/ an antagonist relationship to the world around him. But, that's mainly in the writing, in the "Mister Stark"s & whatnot. Tom Holland himself is a good actor & perfect fit for high school Peter, w/ the potential to be the best live action interpretation of a younger Peter. And, between the death of Tony & that Mysterio leak through Jameson, he's in a perfect place to get more of that tension, that attitude, that bite.

The cast around him is already perfect. Zendaya as MJ is the MVP in my book, capturing the central spirit of Mary Jane in the right ways while offering a neat, fresh spin on the idea. Ned is conceptually frustrating in that he's just a renamed Ganke stolen from Miles, but if I ignore that, there's no denying the chemistry Tom & Jacob have. The rest of the high school cast (including teachers) is wonderfully fleshed out, w/ great personalities; both films light up the most when that dynamic is the focus. And, while a very significant departure, Marisa' May has a wonderful relationship to Peter that was a highlight of Homecoming & would be great to explore (especially if she someday has a dang line of dialogue mentioning Ben, lol). Plus, the [re]introduction of Simmons as Jameson.

And, of course... the web swinging. I can't believe it took so long to actually have a proper NYC web swinging sequence, which wasn't quite on the level of Raimi, Webb, & Spider-Verse, but was still such a breath of fresh air:

Like, rewatching this clip w/out having to watch the whole mediocre film beforehand... This is 100% Spider-Man! Give me a movie of this!

So, yeah. My trust hasn't been earned yet, anything could happen, but like... it's narratively in a promising place. Even if I have to suffer through a couple more Happy scenes & another reference to "Mister Stark." Even if they somehow actually commit to his identity reveal (which... would shock me). Even if they refuse to address Uncle Ben's role as a motivating factor. The pieces are there for it to feel right.

I’m sure I’m in the minority but I’d kinda rather see a college aged Peter. Don’t know why

Same. Would love to see Peter & MJ in college, hanging out w/ Gwen, Harry, etc. Unfortunately, since FFH takes place in 2023 & features a 16-yr-old Peter... I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't make a film where he graduates high school until, like, summer of 2025, lol.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the next movie has his graduation tbh. Seems like a classic third movie theme, but yet something we haven’t seen from a Spiderman movie

A few years ago, when Kevin Feige would talk about having a trilogy of high school films (compared to Harry Potter in terms of films taking place a year apart), I assumed the third film would be "Spider-Man: Graduation." But, again, Peter's still 16 years old in FFH. That means Civil War, Homecoming, Infinity War, Endgame, & FFH all take place (from Peter's perspective) w/in the span of, like, one year? I'd be surprised if they immediate jumped to his high school graduation.

Plus, all these producers at Sony & Marvel love showing Peter in high school. Every live action series has started there. And, for as long as the Tom Holland casting and/or the Marvel Cinematic Universe exist, they're not gonna wanna reboot, even if the contract between studios stops getting extended. Which means, they're gonna wanna milk high school Peter as long as they can.

I don't believe for a second that Endgame was written the way it was for the sake of the Spider-Man franchise's future, especially since they wouldn't have known for sure if that future would be w/ Marvel Studios or not. But, I do think, amidst all that planning, they realized what that would give them in terms of extending his & other characters' status quos w/out falling grossly out of step w/ real time (which the MCU has mostly followed). So, I think they're gonna use that to their advantage. Since in-universe Peter is 16 yrs old in a film that takes place 5 yrs after 2018...

I'd say, expect "Spider-Man: Graduation" in summer of 2025, w/ Peter's class being "class of 2025" being part of the marketing.
