Yeah, the story was lacking. The parts that I enjoyed the most felt shorter than I would have liked, and there were decent stretches of the film where I was like "this is just unnecessary and dragging the film on". Peter and MJ were very cute. Loved their whole interaction when she found out he was Spider-Man. Peter using his Spider-Sense was awesome, loved when he closed his eyes completely in the drone fight. Electrified webshooters were sick. Happy looking at Peter and appreciating his genius while he created his suit was heartwarming. Every Mysterio action sequence fighting Peter was awesome and trippy. They were pretty perfect imo. The whole Edith thing was dumb. Trusting Beck right away with no basic research was dumb. The secret identity reveal was dumb (also Peter in a bar with Beck in costume without a mask on raises no suspicion.. because they're in Europe, I guess? Wut?). Some of the coolest action sequences in a Spider-Man film for sure, if not the best, but looked too CGI-ey a lot of the time. Still waiting to see something like the ASM2 opening scene, but that's fine and really just personal preference tbh. Funniest joke was Peter's teacher talking about his wife tricking him into being blipped. I thought that was fucking hilarious. JB Smoove was great, too. The skrull after credit scene didn't bother me, but was unnecessary. Idk, I'm sure I'll have a lot more thoughts as I let the film sit, but that's just some rambling thoughts.
Jon Watts said there could still be a chance that Ben Parker is alive in the MCU as nothing is “off the table.” Whack
I wonder if they'll recast Spider-Man if these films move beyond high school? Tom Holland is so short + has a super small frame, there's no way he'll be convincing as the adult version of this character.
Here's the context of that statement: Does the MCU’s Spider-Man Have an Uncle Ben? Jon Watts Says Yes I wanna believe that he's just being a troll, but honestly, I wouldn't be surprised at this point if that were on the table. *sigh*
Can’t wait for them to randomly put Ben’s death and the responsibility line in the third film out of nowhere.
He’ll probably age with the character but Kevin once again mentioned that Kamala Khan will appear in the future and I’m assuming that’s when they’ll bring in Miles and a few others. Instead of getting films about college Peter, we’ll get Miles. The more I think I about it the more I doubt Peter will die and he’ll just be a mentor. This also depends on Sony feels now that Miles is the star of their animated films.
Tom Holland is 23, so I'm pretty sure he's done all the growing he's gonna do. He's not going to "age" with the character lol
She also said that Garfield is her fav Spidey. She liked Far From Home a lot more than me, loved the general plot, but she seems to have the same Spider-take that I do.
^ Also, I don't completely agree w/ this, I dig the young cast & largely see the Gen Z kids I work with & love in these kids (albeit painted broadly)... But, it's an interesting take I don't really disagree with.
Really nailed my thoughts about the MCU take on Spider-Man as a whole and as a character and while even if I like the movies it never feels quite like the Spider-Man character I love the most.
I'm saying that he's physically too small for the role. Most people don't continue to grow once they've hit 23.
I don’t think Peter has ever been tall. He’s only been toned, but not bulky. If Sony and Marvel continue getting along then I could see Tom being in the role for 10+ more years.
