If y'all liked MJ in Homecoming, you'll probably appreciate what they do with her in FFH

    Needled 24/7

    Spider-Man 1:

    - The sequence of him drawing up the costume.
    - J Jonah Jameson
    - final swing
    - (cheating) Norman and Harry Osborn
    - (cheating) all of the golden-basked shots of the city
    - (cheating) the opening theme

    Spider-Man 2:
    - Bruce Campbell as Mysterio
    - Alfred Molina
    - Raindrops
    (cheating) Aunt May's pep talk

    Spider-Man 3:
    - Sandman scene
    - Em0 Peter; specifically J Jonah's reactions to Peter lol.
    - Venom's appearance. He got short shafted but I always liked how he looked.

    The Amazing Spider-Man 1
    - Flash telling Peter he was sorry for Uncle Ben's death.
    - Peter being flustered around Gwen.

    The Amazing Spider-Man 2
    - His eyes dude!
    - All things Peter and Gwen

    Spider-Man Homecoming
    - A Film by Peter Parker ('we have thin walls here')
    - The Vulture reveal
    - This scene. Very Peter. Very Tony. Very Peter and Tony.

    Into the Spiderverse
    - Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker
    - the entire dynamic between Peter and Miles.
    - the obvious love and care for Spider-Man

I forgot to mention it, but I would definitely throw the emo Peter scene in for one of the my favorite parts of Spider-Man 3

Spider-Verse is my favourite by a distance. Homecoming my least favourite. I'm not really looking forward to this but I'll see it next week.

She's like 99% of what I'm looking forward to about this. Which, for a Spider-Man movie w/ Mysterio, is in a way kind of a bummer. But, I also just genuinely love Zendaya's MJ. The more she grows into what makes comic book MJ special, the better.

How could anyone on planet earth not be looking forward to a Jake G Mysterio?

I know a lot of people have been hyped on Mysterio having a version of the fishbowl, which I am, too. If you look at the first page of this thread, you'll probably see me dreading like a Daft Punk or Power Ranger look.

And yet, I still get a weird "not my Mysterio" vibe from what I've seen, lol.

The Iron Man looking torso is so dumb to me. I wish he had an actual helmet instead of a CGI one. His reveal in the first trailer felt flat & lame to me. I'm hoping when the inevitable "reveal" of his villainy & illusions or whatever happens, it'll feel like a Mysterio comic. But so far, nothing has felt like my favorite Spidey villain brought to life.

Based on the trailers, they don't seem to be pushing Mysterio to his most interesting.

Also wonder what's going to happen with that Mac Gargan stuff from Homecoming and the credits scene?

Probably nothing. A small character like Mac Gargan (in terms of the other villains in the MCU so far) might not show up again until a sinister six film.

I kinda have the same feeling that they might hold back some of Mysterio’s weirdness, but with Jake signing on to the role I feel like something special has to be there for him to say yes.

I actually have a pretty specific non-Sinister Six thought on how I'd wanna see Mac Gargan used in the next film. But, that's part of my thoughts on the leaked FFH mid credit scene, so I'll wait 'til after I see the actual film tomorrow night before committing to & sharing that thought, lol.

Mysterio has some amazing visuals in this.

This was a lot of fun. Way more character oriented than I thought. The post credit scenes are weird...

Bumped up from a 91% to 93% yesterday. That’s rare for a film to go up

Going to see this in a couple of hours and I’m excited. Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal’s press junket has been such a joy to watch this week.

I thought this was great. They definitely saved the best Mysterio visuals for the actual movie. That initial "fight" between him and Spidey was incredible

    Oh no.

How would you compare it to Homecoming? I remember you being a fellow critic of that film, but I don't remember you being this hard on it.

Also really wanna hear your take on the mid credit scene.

I loved the mid credit scene, loved this film and would put it above Homecoming. (Which I also really liked). Although if you don’t like HC, I doubt you’ll like this one. Gyllenhaal, Holland and Zendaya are all awesome.

I rewatched Homecoming sometime between Spider-Verse and the PS4 Spider-Man game and it held up solidly, the stuff I had issues with I still had issues with but the stuff I liked I liked even more. Based on that and Jake Gyllenhaal and the general positivity of critics (I didn't read any reviews, I just knew most critics seemed warm on Far From Home), I had moderately high expectations for this. I think this is one of the worst MCU movies.

The mid-credit scene is... fine. I don't quite get Feige's insistence on everyone knowing Peter's identity (I remember a letter to the editor from like, ten years ago where he vowed to bring the Peter Parker identity reveal to Aunt May to life onscreen), and I think secret identity stuff is such a rich playground that I don't get giving all that fertile ground away so early (this is MCU Peter's second movie! He's still in high school!). If I thought the MCU were at all competent at handling the fallout/consequences of major story elements that affect further movies I'd be more receptive to it, but I think that's an area where the MCU is aggressively bad.

I did say "Yes" to myself as I laughed out loud when I saw J.K. Simmons, which is the most visceral warm reaction I've had to an MCU movie since I think Falcon's first scene with wings in the Winter Soldier? But you know me, it shouldn't be any surprise that I'm stoked J.K. Simmons is back lol. The only thing that bums me out is it means I'll see another MCU Spider-Man movie, and if it's the same creative team, I'm dreading it.
