Wanted to drop this episode of my podcast in here. If you haven’t had a chance to check out this Spidey book, I recommend it. Great look at the comic book art over the years. Welcome to Geekdom | Spider-Man: From Amazing to Spectacular
Heck yeah. Love this character, & love Takeshi Miyazawa's art. Wonder if it'll be colored by Ian Herring, who has experience w/ both Silk & Miyazawa. Regardless, pretty pumped about this. Though, holy crap is there a lot of Spider-Man stuff right now, lol. In addition to ASM (twice monthly), Miles Morales, Venom, Ghost Spider, Black Cat, Mary Jane, various miniseries, & the IDW series, there's a new Spider-Woman series starting up in March, Joe Kelly & Chris Bachalo's "Non-Stop Spider-Man" in June, & now this in July.
That cover art is great. It kind of looks like they took an actual photo of someone and then just traced some some line work over it to make it feel more like a cartoon Unless that's what they actually did here, and in that case, I'm all for it
Anyone who doesn't pick Spider-Verse should be shot, nursed back to health, then shot again, tbh. Anyways, my picks... hm... Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Spider-Man 2 Amazing Spider-Man 2 Thank goodness Venom wasn't included, 'cause that would've made picking only 3 literally impossible.
Into the Spiderverse, Spider-Man 2, Far From Home BUT I'll say that the show Spectacular Spider-Man is better than most of these, haha
If I could pick seven, I wouldn't pick Far From Home. If I could pick eight, I'd add Venom. If I could pick nine, I'd add Endgame. If I could pick ten, I'd include both Spider-Man 2 & Spider-Man 2.1. If I could pick eleven, I'd include the 1978 Japanese short film that was basically a theatrical episode of that Toei television series. For picks twelve through fourteeen, I'd include those made for television films for the 70s American television series. For fifteen, I'd finally throw in Infinity War, I guess. If you make me keep this bit going, I'll start looking up the names of some porn parodies.
I know... putting it below Infinity War is harsh. But, no, seriously, this is clearly hyperbole at this point, lol. I bought the movie on Black Friday so I’d continue owning every American theatrical Spidey film. I’ll buy Morbius when it comes out, too, ‘cause I have a problem (though that one I’ll probably get used ‘cause Leto is a creep). It is, sincerely, my least favorite of the eight Spidey solo films, though. I can sit through any Spider-Man film, but dang, it’s frustrating. But, I’ll still see the next one opening night because, again, I have a problem.
That’s how I feel about Morbius. I’m not exactly excited for it, but I’ll see it opening day and kinda bummed it was delayed until March. At least we get Venom 2 this year
Oh man, I am so excited for Venom 2. Very high chance of being the best comic book film of the year (as much as I loved Birds of Prey). Saw a rumor yesterday that the trailer was coming today, but then later saw the rumor get debunked & got sad, lol. So ready for Carnage to play off of Venom, plus no origin to go through, plus Shriek (who will hopefully at some point look like her comics version).
God I think I’d pick: The Amazing Spider-Man - because for all its problems it’s also at least the origin story I prefer to watch over Raimi’s. Spider-Man 2: Because nostalgia and even if it’s deeply flawed, I’ve got love for it. Spider-Verse: Because duh.
