    I truly am baffled at Sony announcing that previous date, especially since it seems like it was in very early production.

    When they were asking Hailee Steinfeld about it on the red carpet and she said she hadn’t recorded any dialogue - that was huge sign. Then the writers strike then the expose that animators were going through an insane amount of crunch and abuse, it needed to slam the brakes.

    I really wonder if Lord/Miller thought they could bully enough animators to make that date or if Sony was just absolutely out of their minds.

    Someone on Reddit said something about Lord and Miller having spun it to Sony as having too long of a film and needing to break it in half, and Sony took that to mean the second half was done.

    I don't know how true that is, but purportedly it's one of the reasons Sony's relationship with them went cold.
