he still has hard hitting one liners without relying on them to carry a song. "kick" always hinted at his ability to tell a compelling story but he lives up to the promise of that song on this album.
Every single song has a standout one liner imo. Dude is a great songwriter Not entirely sold on a couple songs tho. Pendulum, mutable, and exit bags don’t really do it for me
Even as a massive fan of this band, I agree. Dylan has a good voice when uses it in a more powerful way ("They're not gonna leave her a single mother" from Kick is a good example), but he does the wobbly thing a little too much. I actually think Soupy was doing this on NCTH & SC too.
It does suck that no one ever even mentions Giant Sings The Blues because there are some really good tracks on there. I don't really expect them to ever play any of them or anything ever again though
It's so hard to find a sign When every ad says, "You'll be fine" My new favorite one liner. Listened to this whole driving to work at 6am in a heavy rain storm this morning. Highly recommend it.
I have had to have listened to this album in full at least 45 times front to back already. Just constant repeat as soon as it’s over.
Dylan said on the Sappenin podcast he doesn’t consider Giant a SLS record and Schmaltz is when they started taking being a band seriously.
Seems like this is a hot topic, but yeah I didn’t get into the last album because I didn’t like the singer over a whole albums worth. I find it much more palatable on this.
This is a great story - thank you for sharing it. I’ve spoken to Dylan a few times at shows and he’s always been such a good dude (the whole band has for that matter). I actually reached out to Dylan to ask for his help with my proposal and he wrote a song for me to use. Asked me for some information about our relationship and my then-fiancé and seriously wrote such an amazing track it could’ve been on an album. I emailed him a picture of us after the successful proposal and his response was genuine joy. Good dude.
I've been experimenting with swapping round Pendulum, Haunted and Clean-Up Crew at the start of the album: Lifers Haunted Clean-Up Crew Pendulum Middle of Nine I think this works a bit better for the "flow" but it does mean you delay the title drop.
