First time hearing this band today and I really enjoyed this album. It's kinda like a mix of Modern Baseball and David Byrne.
After a couple more listens, my initial opinion holds up, This is a good album that just doesn't hit the same BFE and Schmaltz hit for me right away. It kind of drags in the second half before picking back up with the closer. Dylan's lyrics are on point though...just wish there was a little more dynamism like the buildup in the last track before they just let loose with the final part.
I'm surprised to not see much talk about "Here You Are", which is quickly becoming a favorite in their discography for me.
Clean Up Crew may be one of my favorite songs ever. The line “it’s just like life to teach me a lesson” is unreal. So glad I held out on the other singles besides Haunted. There is no way anything else tops this for my AOTY. It’s got everything I love about music from this scene. Sad lyrics, sing along reprises, call backs to other albums and earlier songs, etc. Also it sounds SO good. I need to see this one played front to back. Feel like they may only do the three singles and one more on Hot Mulligan tour. Leaves me hopeful a headline is to follow.
Chicago show on 12/15 was moved to a 5K venue about a week ago. HoB show on 12/16 is already sold out. I hope this helps them take off.
100%. Previous albums didn't stick with me and I love this one. Yeah I still can't get over Clean Up Crew. The way he delivers the line, "I whistle while I work, but the work is gone" is just one of the more pleasing melodies I've heard in a while.
I can’t tell if the guitar in Exit Bags is really similar to something, or it’s just one of them guitar lines that instantly feels familiar.
I listened to the singles when they dropped, but for someone getting married in a few weeks, that "surprise wedding" line in Clean-Up Crew still hits me hard
Reminded me a bit of Dig Up The Dead by Mansions. Not the same thing, but that's where my head went initially.
