This album is going to be really special to listen to through the colder months.

 

This is very good but just brutal for me to listen to right now.

 

Was so worried based on the synth vibes but Dylan’s voice is 100x better on this and it just works so well. Lyrics are just so dense with one liners. Can’t wait to dig in more. Production is great

 

The more I listen to this, the more I think it has more in common with the Fireworks release from this year than any Menzingers album, at least instrumentally.

EDIT: a lot of the little electronic flourishes give me Foxing vibes too. This record is revealing itself after 5 or so listens.

This freakin song. Holy crap. I just listened to it multiple times in a row. What a song.

 

I think this is their best album musically, though I haven’t listened to Schmaltz yet. I liked their sound on BFE but all the songs on that album seemed very similar to each other. On No Joy, the songs are more varied and it’s more of a musical journey throughout the album. I haven’t really delved into the lyrics but I wish that not every line in every song was about late stage capitalism. It’s a bit much

 

I wish AIM was still a thing. I could have so many different away messages with these lyrics.

 

You will not like Schmaltz if you think all songs on BFE were similar.

 

The weird thing is that I really like every single song on BFE, I just don’t like listening to it all the way through

Chills every time.

 

The guitar riff in "Here You Are" that follows the line "There's a kid with a trust fund asking me why I'm not famous" punches me in the gut every time I hear it. It sounds so fucking sad.

 

Exit bags is probably the best song they’ve ever written.

 

I’ve had crippling depression for like a month now so even if this didn’t have the energy I wanted out of the gate it’s still doing a whole lot for me

 

Thematically, I'm Gonna Miss Everything reminds me a lot of TWY's "The Ocean Grew Hands to Hold Me", safe to say I dig it hah.

 

This is exactly how I feel! I haven’t been able to pin down why, but I read a comment (unsure how accurate it is) when BFE was released that all songs are in the same key except one? That’s my only theory

 

Lifers is so very good and TWOD, it makes me sick. I’m still warming up the acoustic guitar being the prominent guitar sound on a lot of songs but it works so damn well on this one.

 

My vinyl arrived. Hell yeah!

 

haven't been able to get through the whole album yet for various reasons and finally got to this song and yeah, they definitely ascended there

 

Schmaltz is way less samey than BFE I think

 

Yeah, not sure I understood that comment. Schmaltz has quite a bit of variety.

 

Damn I gotta check out Schmaltz then. Discovered them at the BFE era and just never looked back.

 

I absolutely love Schmaltz. Honestly Schmaltz/BFE/No Joy is right up there with my favorite three album stretches of any band in the scene with 59 Sound-Handwritten, The Upsides-TGG and OTIP-ATP. The band has been on fire the last five years.

 

Schmaltz is still my favorite I think, very special album for me.
