I can barely hear him talking between songs. I can hear him singing OK, but can barely hear his guitar.
That live play through is absolutely fucking brilliant. The first 12 minutes is quiet. And for sure his voice overpowers the guitar. But he sounds amazing live. I had tickets to see them in April and boy I hope that show or any others happen again soon. This album saved me in quarantine. As I think it did for many of us.
Just listened to this again today because my buddy text me about it. It’s pretty close to flawless. Just a perfect record at the perfect time.
This is exactly how I feel. This, and other Wonder Years/Menzingers type rock, has become familiar and exhausting to a degree. But today I'm leaning towards genius.
That's ultimately up to the band IMO. If they want to release them publicly in some capacity, go for it. Otherwise, it's shitty.
on one hand I get why they want to keep stuff behind a paywall if they have enough paying customers to realistically profit from it, but on the other hand i wonder how many people who would way more willing to buy an EP for $5-10 as a one time thing rather than subscribe to a monthly program.
Obviously the band can do what they want but the point of Patreon is to pay money to help out creators you like and receive something exclusive in return so it just wouldn't be right for them to release the songs essentially for free when people have been paying actual money to exclusively hear them. People have been paying 5-10 bucks a month for the covers so I'd be a bit annoyed if they released them all for only 5-10 bucks when folks have been paying more altogether to hear them all. I'm not a member of their Patreon but just speaking as if I was a member.
Also, if you really wanted to you could buy a $5 subscription, download all the covers, then unsubscribe and do the same thing again months later. Basically the same thing as a standalone EP of the covers.
i don't think i would be annoyed if i was a paying subscriber that someone else got the opportunity to also pay them for their work without also actively subscribing. idk. ultimately as @swboyd said, it's up to the band how they choose what to release and what to keep exclusive. no harm no foul.
seems like a silly thing to even be debating but, well.... now i'm gonna go spin Schmaltz because its warm out and my windows are open
I was coming at it from the angle of someone paying a one time $5 or $10 for an EP of the covers vs people who have been subscribed to the Patreon since they started it and having paid over 50-100 bucks altogether for those same covers. Either way they'd make money though so maybe they will release them elsewhere someday.
