Enough time has passed. Its okay to actually say Coco is the best Pixar film now ;-)

after watching this I saw Inside Out was on tv and watched the ending and I’m sorry that you feel that way, it’s near perfect

Yeah idk, I never watched it before tonight, but decided to after seeing it mentioned in this thread and I just thought Soul was way better. Not to say I didn't love Inside Out as well, it was a top tier Pixar film for sure

This could just be me but I think it would have benefitted from like an epilogue where it’s years later and a girl walks into Joe’s music class and he realizes it’s 22.

I fully expected at least something like this and I thought they were setting that up with the samara helicopter leaves 22 liked so much; like maybe 22 would be a kid Joe runs across who has an affinity for those. Wouldn’t even have to be a student in his class.

I like, for *one* second thought maybe Joe would meet a little boy and have a short interaction that ended with him suddenly realizing it was 22, and it’d wind up being one of those things where one crowd claims 22 as a trans icon and the other crowd responds with weird jokes about what bathrooms people should use

Like the big thing is how would 22 even remember him as a human?

They wouldn't, but maybe the movie could have shown a subtle smile on Joe's face recognizing something about 22's personality or voice

  17. Yeah, like a kid scarfing down a pizza or like @Nyquist said, something about the helicopter leaves.

That said, I’m glad they didn’t show Joe and 22 crossing paths because my over thinking self would be like “7 billion people and 22 just happened to go where Joe is”

  18. Of all the little logical things I’m willing to let go regarding this movie though, I do have to wonder about the cat lol. Like how did the cat get back into its body, and does the visual of a cat soul on an escalator to the great beyond imply there’s a great before for animals

I guess too it bothered me a little that none of the other souls in the beginning seemed to care that they were dead besides Joe but that’s whatever, movie’s not about them

I loved this but I can't be the only one that was expecting Joe to stay in the Great Before as a mentor right? like his entire arc was leading him there?

  20. I don’t think any of the mentors actually stayed? So I guess I didn’t even consider that as an option. But I guess none of the mentors got second chances at life either so anything goes apparently

I was a bit unclear on that too but I thought Jerry was going to like offer him a permanent mentor position or something. hell they just straight up gave him another life so they were clearly ok with bending the rules lmao

I kinda thought they'd take him on as a permanent mentor too, after pointing out that music doesn't necessarily have to be his purpose or spark - really lean into his talent and love for helping others

22 sitting on the stairs listening to the wind and watching the leaves reminded me of the ending of Sound of Metal and I think this would be a great double feature.

the fact that a movie by Pixar more or less features a new clipping. song is just absolutely wild in the best way to me

Wow. I’m not huge on Pixar like most (I did really enjoy Coco though) but this was beautiful in every way. It made me emotional, music was amazing, animation was incredible (Without the characters I seriously can’t tell that it’s animated cause of those gorgeous backgrounds) and no lulls whatsoever to make me yawn/look at my phone and whatnot (Looking at you Wonder Woman)

I loved when Joe/22 go to earth, Joe as a cat upped the entertainment level for me quite a bit!

My only complaint? It was too short, ending came too fast and I was hoping for a little more but it’s pretty perfect as is.
