I've been neglecting this record and I can't figure out why.. could be the content makes it so hard to just binge on it. Came back to it today and was reminded of how good of a record it is.
If I'm being honest, I haven't gone back to this that much. I really liked it, and listened to it a ton the first few weeks and since then have only went back to it one or two times.
the slower/darker songs aren't aging that well for me outside of the context of the album. But songs like Disappear and No Halo are still doing it for me.
I like this a lot more than I did when it came out. Definitely grew hard, especially after seeing them They got a shout out from Justin Pierre yesterday which was really cool
I feel this way about their discography in general. Their pop side is way stronger than their jammy, darker rock side.
I haven't returned to this in a month or two, but I know I like it. It just takes such a toll lyrically. Leave The Fan On is one of the best songs I've heard this year, though. And the video for No Halo... man.
According to last.fm this is my second most played album of 2017 so far. If you'd told me that I'd like A Sorority Noise album that much at the end of last year I'd have said you were crazy.
I'm just not feeling this. No Halo may be one of the best songs of the year but the drop off is immediate and huge. It starts very strong, ends strong, but there's maybe three good songs on this record. The praise baffles me.
It compares well to Tigers Jaw. One song that's among the best of the year, a couple that are very good, and then 6-8 failed attempts at copying that success. Nothing bad, just a lot that falls flat for me.
