Sophie Died in 2021. The Album She Left Behind Is Now Complete. ‘My first impression was this person’s a genius’: the life and legacy of producer pioneer Sophie
It’s different and impossible to assess in that context with her being gone but based off the singles I’d say it’s a lot weirder than you’d expect. It feels like Sophie.
Interesting take, I found this album to be LESS weird than I expected haha, by a lot. I think it's a good listen, but didn't blow me away. Glad that it was released though, as this finalizes the album she was working on when she passed, I'm sure her family is able to close the book on that chapter at least
The first and fourth track combine for twelve minutes of ambient music, I agree that it’s not super experimental but that’s hardly conventional lol
looking forward to it nonetheless. the number of features concerns me that it'll feel less like her own album, but I'm sure it all works.
definitely feels like SOPHIE and the features didn't really distract, only on a couple tracks do the features really take center stage
Excited to listen. Did a “discography” run earlier today and her shit is so good. Hope there’s a track like Whole New World
Listened through it once so far I like it, but I can't help but thinking it doesn't feel as...vital as Oil, which might be incredibly unfair to say for the obvious reason of it being a posthumous release, and with how high of a bar Oil set. But I do really wonder how it might have come out had Sophie been alive through its whole process. It could very well be exactly what Sophie was going for, of course we'll never know that for sure sadly. But with the negatives out of the way, I do enjoy it and will give it future spins to see how it holds up.
