Sonic was.. something like it wasn’t bad for what it was. But the whole time I was watching it I just was more interested in how this film came to be in the first place. It’s weirdly targeted to a very young age demographic (I’m talking like 5-9 year olds) and feels like an indie film at the same time (small scale/contained) There were two scenes that made me laugh. Jim Carrey is a weird choice for robotnik if we’re basing it on video games, but he does make it work as the film goes on. That’s one thing I can say about the film, it does get better as it goes on, and I was oddly left looking forward to a sequel if they can have a bigger budget and improve on aspects I didn’t like. Take them to a trippy world/Sonics universe and go balls to the wall with it
I feel like there were probably 14 versions of this script and ONE of them was pretty good. There are a couple witty/funny/nice bits that are always fighting with like two other movies.
I didn't think this would be the last movie I would see in 2020, but it happened. It is such a weird film, almost like they were mocking the idea of taking the idea of a Sonic movie seriously.
Thanks to Covid, this was the second highest grossing film in the UK in 2020 (behind 1917 and ahead of Tenet in 3rd).
During the whole movie it felt like they had an idea of how silly it is to make a Sonic movie and just ran with it. I appreciated that.
