But then those same people will be like "wait, didn't he die?" I saw it with someone who's a casual Star Wars fan (i.e. just the movies) and he was so confused thinking that Maul meant it took place before Episode 1 but then realizing the timeline didn't match up with Han Solo, and I tried to explain what happened Clone Wars and the poor guy just couldn't understand it haha. I can only imagine how many other people were confused by it
I actually enjoyed Solo a whole lot more than I thought I was going to and feel it is a pretty solid sci-fi movie, but the Darth Maul thing was the second dumbest thing in the entire movie, only bested by the reveal of how Han Solo got his last name.
Ill be on the side of the hill supporting you but not willing to risk my life trying to help you Basically I liked it but didnt love it
I still really enjoy this film. Some stuff was a little silly (Han speaking wookie), Lando's accent going in and out (sometimes it just sounded like an impression), but it was a fun ride. Having the Darth Maul inclusion was also a great surprise, especially if you follow Clone Wars and Rebels. Was it necessary? Probably not. If it's true that sequels were planned, and if they choose to make them, I'd love to see how that all branches out. I honestly can see them doing a Disney+ series to continue the story and not another film. Who knows though? They may just make it a one off. I just want more Donald Glover as Lando.
Yo remember how this movie strongly implies that the smoothest womanizer in the galaxy likes to pork his robot?
Im fine/like idea of having darth maul back for whatever, but the casual lightsaber brandishing on the hologram was very humorous
The Maul inclusion makes sense if you've followed the shows and set up a nice thread for a sequel. But we'll probably never get that sequel so it does feel even goofier that he'd show up and put on a lightsaber show for the audience in hindsight.
Watched this for the first time since theaters. It's great, pure fun. The script is a lot tighter than I remember. The opening is sequence is still a little flat, but it does a great job of setting up Han & Qi'ra's relationship and I love the thermal detonator gag plus the speeder getting stuck. Those feel like pure Lord & Miller creations. Han getting his name is still unnecessary though. After that the movie really clicks for me. Chewie Han meet-cute, the train heist, and the sabacc game are great. I do wish we got to know Beckett's crew a little more, but there is enough there for some emotional weight. And the Kessel heist plus run is fantastic. The droid and slave rebellion is hilarious. I love seeing Chewie with other Wookies. The final showdown is great and a nice mix up from the huge sprawling battles we're used too. Alden nails it as Han and I love the relationship between him and Lando and him and Beckett. Really wish this had done better at the box office relative to its budget because I'd love to see more of this. Oh, and the score is still incredible.
All of this; I thought the movie was great fun, and a great reflection of who Han is/what his character would end up becoming later on in the trilogy films
I think both are better and I enjoy them much more Solo is better than resistance if we are going to include tv
I have Rogue One as my overall favorite Star Wars film, hahaha. Still pretty cool to see such opposite feelings on stuff like this, haha
The first 2/3’s are pretty flat. The third act will always be good. But having it as your favorite Star Wars? Oof. How do you feel that when such a large chunk of the movie is sub par?
