The Maul arc in Clone Wars might be my second favorite thing about that series (first being everything Ahsoka).
- i was surprised Emilia didnt die. because seeing as these are stand alone films, what are we supposed to believe Han after years of being in love with this girl is just like "whatever, i got my ship, i got my wookie, lifes good" - i was happy when the four armed guy in their little crew did so early because i understood what he was supposed to be in their little gang but it was not working for me and he was not funny at all. i remember thinking "holy this four armed dude is the most boring character ever" - i think honestly one of the worst parts of this movie for me was the writing for Han and Emilias characters relationship. like i was just frustrated by it. All of a sudden she just shows up. And in like the least emotional way possible. This former lover who Han has been trying to get back to for 3 years literally just happens to be inside this little floating needle thing and approaches him like "yo sup!"....... what??? honestly when she first showed up i was like "okay is this like a shape shifter or something because this is too weird". And then how they just wouldnt talk about things at all for the longest time. Again, this girl has literally been what Han is living for for 3 years, she randomly shows up, and then they get on the millennial falcon and Hans just walkin around not shook by the situation at all. lmao. - i honestly thought Alden played Han perfectly. he did a really good job of getting Fords vocal inflections as Han down really well. He was probably the best part of the film for me. - I adore Donald Glover but i thought his accent was weird. - Why did that one wookie that chewie saved have a sasquatch / gorilla face? - They could have cut down a lot of the action stuff for me. Action sequences are getting old a bit. - Why did that one wookie that chewie saved have a sasquatch / gorilla face? - Why did that one wookie that chewie saved have a sasquatch / gorilla face? - Why did that one wookie that chewie saved have a sasquatch / gorilla face? - Why did that one wookie that chewie saved have a sasquatch / gorilla face? - Why did that one wookie that chewie saved have a sasquatch / gorilla face?
Couldn't remember Emilia's characters name?? lol I feel like the reason she was so nonchalant was because of the hold Dryden had on her. What would he have done if someone saw them smooching it up?? Im glad they showed affection on the Falcon in Landos closet though. I thought the four arm guy was pleasant, with some charm and wit. His 5 mins of stardom prior to and during the heist was pretty entertaining, I thought.
yeahyeahyeahyeaeyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah but like their little meet up was lame. im not expecting a full on make out sesh in front of everyone. thats not what i mean when i say it had no emotion.
Liked Maul in Clone Wars and Lockdown. Though I think Solo would’ve garnered way more buzz if they brought back Jar Jar instead
Do people realize that those references are for like 8 year olds ha? I tried listening to the slashfilmcast about Solo and I couldn’t get through it ha. I prefer the slashfilmdaily reaction that was released yesterday, and agreed with Brad’s issues with the film on that podcast.
Wow, I wonder why TLJ and TFA are my favorite SW movies. Not sure how well Solo will do considering L3 and Qi’ra talk about a dude in the cockpit of the falcon when they could have been talking about literally anything else and Val was severely underused. Edit: and just came across this today too, this looks rad!
I saw on Twitter the SW twitter account is using her to advertise the movie. "Thandie Newton is Val!" or something like that, and it seems so shitty because such a great actress has what maybe 8 total minutes of screen time? edit: found it
If you put a character in a movie, where they play a supposedly integral role to the story, dramatize them. Make them interesting and have an independent psychology. Don’t give him like 5 meaningless lines in two movies where he swings a lightsaber around occasionally and then tell me actually, if I put in the effort to consume other Star Wars media, then he’s actually good. No, he’s good in those shows, it doesn’t suddenly make him good in the movies he was in. Someone could write the next great American novel in the Star Wars EU with Jar Jar as the protagonist and he wouldn’t be any more bearable in the prequels Darth Maul is a dookiehead butt character
but they are interconnected stories and those other stories added a larger dimension to his character.. so yea, his character arc is very thin in TPM, but the cartoons make him a better character and I would love to see that character further realized in a future film.
Darth Maul wasn’t handled well in Phantom Menace. But in Star Wars canon he is a great character. Saying his minimal movie screen time trumps all the tv screen time as well as comics to negate the character is weird.
