Lord and Miller were involved in the script, all the pre production/casting and shot most of it right? I think this will still have a lot of their touch on it. Not worried.

Bringing us three good movies a year? I hope they continue!

Perfect response. Marvel's a shitshow these days, has been for a while.

The number one thing I don't understand here is that we've seen shitty movies get made but still make solid profits and then make just as bad sequels that people still go to see (see the first two wolverine films and transformers as someone mentioned before). So, why not take a risk? This movie is going to turn a large profit. It's a Han Solo Star Wars movie, no way it doesn't. I see no reason to just play it safe in that situation. If it gets negative reception from critics and crowds, it'll still be huge. And I guarantee you could wait three years to make another one and it would STILL make a boat load of cash.

    Yes we should, haha.

In all seriousness though, Kevin Smith to direct the new canon Netflix series 'Star Wars: Deathstar' - I just wanna see a Stormtrooper install a toilet.

Kevin Smith being hired to do a Star Wars film isn't even out of the realm of possibility at this point

Haha. If Miller and Lord got fired from straying from Disney's vision after 5 months, Smith would be out within a week.

Idk, Smith is such a fanboy he'd probably do whatever they told him to do.

Reposting this from the article thread:

For those wondering about credit, etc. the DGA is not like the WGA, which has really specific rules about credit. The DGA simply makes a final decision and that's it. There is no set criteria, other than the DGA's preference for a film to have only one director. In fact, directing duo's need an explicit waiver to get dual credit. Thus, it is a truly arbitrary process, unlike the WGA's. It looks like there will need to be a lot of negotiating behind the scenes to figure out a lot of this.

Hollywood Reporter has a good write up about the issues and potential outcome.

The way information is coming out makes me think that it honestly doesn't really matter who finishes it.

Yeah, it seems like it's going to be an "art by committee" kind of thing anyways.

If the rumours are true, I'm happy that Lord and Miller got let go. I don't think it's Disney or Lucasfilm crushing individuality or uniqueness or whatever, more-so protecting an already very well established Universe and it's characters. For example, if this movie had come out and it was a comedy and Han Solo was a comedy character, I can't imagine I'd like it as it wouldn't feel like Star Wars - Han Solo is funny but he's not a comedy character at all imo.

Side note: I also think the articles calling for Kathy Kennedy to be replaced are utter nonsense. I've loved both SW movies since she took over and Edwards did a great job with R1, as far as the anthology films go.

Nah. If they hire a director to make a movie, they should just let that director make the movie. The reason none of Marvel's movies feel particularly special is because they don't feel like singular visions of a talented director, they feel like singular visions of a marketing department with a franchise to keep viable. It's a shame to see the same happening to Star Wars.

This statement makes too much sense............... I don't see it going over well lol.

Didn't you know that we live in the age of job witch hunts? You ever do something to offend anyone and you need to lose your livelihood. I agree that Kennedy does a great job.
