For those of us who do pay attention to everything else, it's quite rewarding. I was incredibly happy that it was him. I kind of went into shock. I loved it.
I think one thing that could be pretty smart, is if they begin serializing some of the standalones, sort of like the Marvel Universe. You could have the Boba Fett movie with Han and Chewie showing up then do a Jabba movie with all of them. I think it could be really great. I'd put money that D&D (GoT) will be doing something in the Old Republic sandbox. All that being said, Star Wars needs female and POC directors immediately.
Heard a lot of friends who are very happy with this who weren't really fans of the new movies. Excited to see this on Wednesday
I agree with this, it ties into the shows they have done and are connecting the movies with TV. I wasn't expecting that tho.
the Darth Maul cameo is probably a little foreshadowing into the Obi Wan movie which has been talked about. And I bet in that, Maul will be the main villain.
And with all the Solo drama around it, I’m not surprised if people completely wrote it off solely based on all of that. Those people will probably see it eventually, but just are in no rush.
Not to mention not as much marketing... it seemed like this movie’s release snuck up on a lot of people
I have to imagine that some of the people who didnt like TLJ 6 months prior also have part of something to do with Solo’s lower opening numbers.
Yeah one of my friends saw it last night and mentioned that it was his favorite of the Disney SW films. He wasn't keen on any of the previous releases so I predicted he would hate it but he ended up really liking it.
That is no joke. I would definitely consider myself a bigger Star Wars fan than virtually any of my friends and even I kept forgetting about it. Though maybe the fact that I didn't get myself hyped up and went in with no expectations actually helped me enjoy the film quite a bit. Since people have posted about it....I had a lot of fun with this one, but TLJ definitely left a way bigger impression on me. I felt like I thought about that movie and certain shots for days and days.
Obviously these movies are still cash cows, but do you think Disney is a little worried about the stand alones not generating near what the main saga does?
I don't think it's denial to say that I don't think Disney is "worried" about these one-off films performing worse (if you want to use that word) than the main saga films, of course those are going to do better, these one off films are for the longtime fans who know the stories and know the characters (and thereby are more likely to be overly critical of them). I know plenty of casual SW fans who didn't see R1 because they weren't interested in the story or the characters, and who probably wont see Solo either, but will surely be out in the theaters next December for Ep9. Disney is already clearly planning future spin off films, and have given out franchises to damn near any director who has inquired. R1 made a billion, and this movie will do just fine.
My main concern is not necessarily now, but what happens after IX. If they actually put the skywalker saga to bed and completely focus on new stories I hope they can keep the interest alive. Obviously Ep 7 benefitted greatly from a hiatus. Love Star Wars, just hoping they can keep it going at a high level.
If he thinks a half full theater is a sign that a movie is empty, I wish he’d seen Personal Shopper or A Bigger Splash with me
“Hi, I’m Kyle Max. I truly believe the small indie film company of Disnay, sorry Disney. They are new and I’m still trying to learn about them. Anyway, this small company is super worried about this one film. It’s below expectations performance (yet a best for Ron Howard) is going to bankrupt and ruin their company.” You are in denial of reality. Move along.
