I noticed it too, but while it wasn’t the best I’ve thought a Bradford Young movie has looked, I wasn’t bothered by it, and scenes in bright locales felt bright.
Things I liked: - Cinematography - The score was pretty solid. I need to listen to it on its own. - Performances - Alden was great and so was pretty much everyone. - Han & Chewie's meet up (even if Han speaking wookie was goofy. In the context of the scene it made sense) plus Han and Chewie's whole dynamic throughout - Chewie pounding shots - Sabacc. Both scenes were highlights and I want to play this game now - L3 liberating the droids and L3 in general. They've managed to do something slightly different with droids in each movie. L3 might be my favorite. I was bummed when she died. It's really cool that she's part of the Falcon. - L3's droid revolt on Kessel - The whole Kessel heist - The Kessel run and Han's "round down" joke - Lando's "I hate you" and then taking off with the Falcon - Enfys Nest reveal - The slew of double-crossing and playing out of Han's plan at the end - Space brass knuckles - Han shooting Woody in the middle of a boring monologue and the compassion he showed as he was dying Didn't like: - The opening speeder chase was very meh. I think the opening of Baby Driver was so good that it may have ruined car chases for me - Getting the name "Solo". Honestly, he could just have Solo as his birth name. This was so dumb. - Poor character development for the new characters. Meeting Beckett and his crew had a great setup with them impersonating officers in the middle of a battle. Seriously, let us get to know them through that. I also can't remember much about Qi'ra as a character besides her being the girl Han likes. - The train heist was disappointing, partially because we didn't know enough about Rio or Thandie's characters to care about their deaths. All train heists should be awesome. This one wasn't. - Donald slipping in and out of a Billy Dee impression. Overall, he was great, very charming. But he tried to be Billy Dee to often and he was better when he wasn't. - Would have liked a little foreshadowing to the Enfys Nest reveal. I liked it, but it wasn't set up very well or at all. Maybe I'll notice something new on a second viewing.
Not surprised. This a movie no one really wanted combined with bad reviews and add that many movie goers just had Infinity War (some had Deadpool 2 last week). Nothing is in Solo’s favor.
This is very rocky to start off, and I don’t ever buy him as Han so it took me out of the movie a few times, but I had some fun and a lot of it is beautifully shot/designed/etc.
70% for an anticipated film like Infinity War wouldn’t have been bad but Solo could have convinced people to watch it with good reviews due to how many are on the fence about watching it. I don’t think 70% is that bad but many people do (going by the internet on this one). You have fanboys like me that will see it regardless.
While it was darker in Proxima’s lair, I could still see it all clearly. 3d glasses do make things darker. One of the many reasons I’m not really into 3d.
Yeah i think it was for sure the theater. Even the scenes in daylight on the snow planet it was really dim. The only time it wasn’t really was the end planet. Still enjoyed it though. I liked it far more than Rogue One
Star Wars movies is one of the only things I actually rank, but I don’t want to place this one yet. But I did enjoy it more than Rogue One.
I loved Rogue One when I saw it in theaters, but it didn't have much staying power once I was watching it at home. I could see this one being a little more rewatchable even though it has similar flaws. Time will tell.
I actually feel the exact opposite about R1. When i left the theater i didnt think id ever watch it again and i think i watch it semiregularly now haha
Don’t get me wrong I still like it, but I have to really be in the mood to watch it. Whereas with the OT, TFA, or TLJ I could pretty much watch whenever and enjoy it.
I was way too bored during for the majority of this. Felt really hollow and pointless. Then I realized maybe they provide no character depth because these side story movies focus more on the universe and lore. I guess in that sense it delivers but it was as still as forgettable as they come.
I enjoyed this movie a lot. I really liked how Han was written and this would be great as a book (so I can picture Han as a young Ford) and I enjoyed Han’s actor more than I thought I would. Lando was good as well. The Crimson Dawn reveal was a delight. 2 - 0 for anthology films.
My Friday night movie routine is not going as usual. I didn't have to wait for a table at the Chili's next to the cinema, and now I'm in a theater with less than 20 people. My jaw dropped when I came in and saw all the empty rows. I think the holiday weekend and summer weather must have something to do with it, but it's still shocking.
