The "I love you" "I know" line is great for those reasons, but then you get "I have a bad feeling about this" a lot and it's lame.
It might be my least favorite of the new Star Wars movies (I'd have to watch this again and re-watch Rogue One), but I thought this was a lot of fun. The action set pieces were pretty entertaining. Alden and Glover were both great, though I did notice Glover slipping between his normal voice and his Billy Dee Williams impression. L3 and the robot liberation stuff was my favorite. I also really liked the introduction to Chewy. Han speaking wookie seems dumb, but it worked for me haha.
The only time I noticed him doing more of an impression was when he was first showing them the Falcon and telling them what he added. It sounded very similar to Billy Dee when showing Cloud City off. Otherwise I think he steered clear of that.
oh my god i totally forgot about the han speaking wookie. my least favorite part for sure lol, i thought it was so so so bad. like almost a mockery of how people so poorly impersonate chewie in every day life.
I can't really defend it and completely understand people cringing, but I was laughing the whole time.
It makes sense and was used sparingly. He had to break through Chewie’s rage or he would die. If he’d done it through the movie I would have hated it. But to cut through to him in an intense moment? Totally works. Was it the best? Nah, but it’s fine. Him getting his last name is by far the absolute worst and most stupid part of this movie by a very large margin. Also, I love how the deal with Lando kept getting worse all the time for him. Some things never change.
‘Solo’ Currently Flying Low For Disney ‘Star Wars’ Opening With $105M-$115M 4-Day Yikes, these numbers are horrible
Just like I thought, not a terribly deep movie but super fun and enjoyable for me on an afternoon off work....just what I wanted.
It was weird watching a new Star Wars movie on opening night and the theater being half empty and the crowd really mild. I really liked the movie though. I couldn't stop thinking about the fact that the Millennium Falcon actually has a droid brain. Is it totally sentient? Can it control aspects of the ship? Does this make it fly better. This adds weird new layers to all the Falcon scenes in the OT.
For a four-day opening for a $250m Star Wars movie that was tracking at $180m two weeks ago? That’s a terrible number, considering it’s doing even worse worldwide. Solo could land at $80 million for the 3 day weekend. Rogue One made $70 million in a day. It’ll probably be profitable in the long run once you factor in merchandise but these numbers are much lower than anyone expected.
I think the numbers are definitely disappointing for Disney if that's what they land at, but not entirely unexpected. Comparing it to Rogue One isn't exactly fair. I think the December release dates have helped the past three movies quite a bit. This one is facing a lot more competition from Avengers and Deadpool. It should have room to breath next weekend. There are no big tentpole films slated for June 1st.
It was never going to do $180. $110m is fine. Most movies would kill for that opening. This "terrible!" "horrible!" "flop!" stuff is just too much.
$110 is fine for a $180m Dwayne Johnson movie that’s doing decent overseas, but it’s almost a disaster for this movie considering the budget and brand. Disney was projecting $130-140m and they’re usually very conservative in their estimates. $110 for the four day weekend is a bonafide disappointment. Looks like it might not even clear $500m worldwide which is pretty disasterous for a $250m Star Wars movie
I don't get why they don't just do crawls for these movies. The blue text panels were basically the crawl in another way, and it feels like, just do it the one way. This is Star Wars, uniform openings aren't a bad thing. I really liked the thermal detonator joke where Han made a "click" noise with his mouth. It won't ever happen but I'm curious to see what was Lord & Miller's. L3 feels a lot like a Lord & Miller type Star Wars character, but her being completely voice-over would have made her very easy to re-shoot or re-dub. The train sequence was really good cinematic action storytelling. I still wish POC, particularly women of color, didn't keep dying in Disney Marvel/Star Wars movies to serve the stories of white, male characters. I was not excited about Darth Maul at all. He diverted the personal conflict between Han, Qi'ra, Woody Harrelson, the Rebels, and all that to someone completely detached from the rest of the movie. And maybe it's just coming off the heels of Infinity War, but dead characters should stay dead when possible. I didn't delve into much EU stuff but even as a kid I remember hearing all about how Darth Maul survived being cut in half and falling down a bottomless pit and rolling my eyes at it (similar to Boba Fett being spat back up by the Sarlaac or however he survives his perfect death).
Did anyone else think the lighting was too dim? Or was it just my theater? I felt like my eyes were straining the majority of the movie to see their faces clearly
I remember the scene on Corellia with that crime boss being really dark, but I don't think I was bothered otherwise.
i actually did feel this way for the first like 30-40 mins oddly enough, i took my 3d glasses off several times to make sure they werent fogging up.
