I wonder if Chewbacca survives that train scene But really, this looks like it could be a fun time. Visually it has a lot of interesting things going on. I guess the biggest concern is that it looks like Alden could just be playing Action Man 5000 and not necessarily Han, if that makes sense, but whatever I guess.
Every time Alden spoke in this new trailer I wondered how that could possibly have been the best take they got from him.
The star destroyer under construction looks amazing. Very intrigued by whatever Dryden Vos is using? The range troopers are wearing some kind of magnetic boots on the train (also wasn’t sure how they would look in the film since the figures of them look bit goofy but I’m sold). I'm stoked on everything but Alden. I'm just not buying him as Han Solo, and the fact they want to feature him as little as possible in his own trailer does not bode well. Still, this movie looks like a ton of fun which is something I couldn't say about Rogue One.
But could you buy him as a 20 year old Han Solo? That is the age he is around in this opposed to 29 year old in ANH. That’s the (certain) point of view I’m looking at him and I actually did buy him in that context personally.
Man, this trailer did nothing for me. I’ll see it for sure, this may be the first Star Wars film I’m not super excited about.
I know for me, I don't buy this performance as a younger Han Solo. If anything, you'd think he'd be almost over-confident at this stage in life, even more animated and cocky than he is in ANH (where further experiences have tempered his personality into more of a smarmy "I know I'm better than you but have the sense to not be over-the-top about it" kind of guy). He seems like he's some kind of wooden, reserved introvert based on his line delivery in this trailer. I mean, the moment where he says "Oh, what do you know?" to Chewie is a great example of that. Everything about how he's saying his lines feels off to me. Contrast that with Donald Glover, who with only three lines of spoken dialogue in this trailer completely convinced me was young Lando. It's so effortless for him, but he's also a pretty incredible actor so it's understandable he'd be so good.
Han Solo had all the arc we really needed in the original trilogy. I don’t think his character is enriched much by further movies, Force Awakens included. That said, this is a disney Star Wars movie. It has a high floor, a low ceiling. Disney is like, the Starbucks or McDonalds of movies. Mostly we should know what we’re getting, quality wise.
Mostly I'd agree but they're still capable of surprises that transcend that comfortable range most of their franchise movies have settled into (Winter Soldier, GOTG1 and Thor: Ragnarok come to mind, specifically). Plus Pixar still makes top-notch films when they aren't making corporate-mandated sequels. But yeah, most of the Marvel films and Episode VII and VIII definitely fall into that "high floor, low ceiling" category you described for sure.
New trailer is not changing my mind. Alden was just not right for the part. I'll only see this in theaters because I have MoviePass, otherwise it'd be a rental
in a weird way I think it's fine even good that I'm not that hyped for the release, there are going to be mediocre/bad SW movies for sure just based on the fact that they're trying to release 1 a year for the next century, so it might be good for the expectation level or the bar to come a bit lower so we can enjoy these more in the future without expecting every single movie to be as good as the empire strikes back.
This is the last Star Wars movie I'm interested in until Rian Johnson's next movie. I think I'll skip IX, I'm satisfied with TLJ and not a JJ Abrams fan. Also good with skipping the Game of Thrones guys SW output.
I’m sure this will be at least a little entertaining, I just fall into the camp of thinking it’s a terrible idea to recast Harrison Ford’s most famous role. Pains me to say it, but I almost wish they got an actual teenager to put some distance in my brain. Alden is just way too close to Harrison’s age in A New Hope.
I've watched the trailer a few times now. Alden looks like he has the mannerisms down. His facial expressions and physical behavior seem to fit Han, but the line delivery just doesn't seem right.
