Also what's with this franchise's recent fascination with casting young, brunette British women, and then insisting they all look as much alike as possible?
Yeah. THAT is the voice. deep. resonant. and has the look but still looks younger. is he a good actor though?
Honestly I'm ok with someone who doesn't look or even sound exactly like Harrison Ford as long as he gets the character right. This obsession with looking and sounding exactly the same is how we wind up with studios resorting to things like CGI Tarkin in Rogue One. They should've just re-cast him, but instead we got a one-way ticket to the uncanny valley. I'm just as worried about this movie as anyone else but if the script is weak or the person playing the part can't act (which, by all accounts from the set may still be the case with Alden), it doesn't matter how much he looks/sounds like Harrison Ford. Right?
This trailer kind of tried to show us two moments where Han traits should really shine. The "heh, what's that?" line in response to Clarke's character and the "I thought we were in trouble, but we're fine" line at the end. Both feel like Han reactions and lines, but the way he delivers them just don't feel right.
I love that Bradford Young is involved. The new Star Wars films have been visually stunning and the aesthetic has been faithful to the OT but inventive. Costume/set design looks great here as well. Almost a Western vibe in parts. The title card and music are eh... I am more excited for Donald Glover than anything else. I've been pretty vocal about the Alden being miscast and this hasn't changed my mind. I do not envy someone having to step into the shoes of one of the most iconic characters in one of the biggest franchises of all time. This is very hard to get right in a satisfying way. I just hope it's a story worth telling and that there's something original here. They're throwing out all the cliches in the trailer. “I’m putting together a crew”, “I’ve been running scams on the street since I was 10”, “I might be the only person who knows what you really are” and the “I thought we were in trouble but we’re fine" gag. I have enough confidence in Lawrence Kasdan to be hopeful.
Honestly, even if they cast him correctly, was anyone too interested in a Han Solo movie? I just personally have little to no interest in seeing a movie about a character we have 4 movies of. I’d actually be much more interested in a Lando movie if they felt the need to do a character we already know
I feel the same way about them doing Kenobi or Boba Fett or whatever. I get that it’s safe, but it’s pretty boring
To me, prequels are almost always a bad idea, so anything that purports to "fill in the gaps" in any way is usually an exercise in wheel spinning futility. I thought Rogue One could be cool because even though we know that the plans wind up in the hands of the rebels, we didn't know what happened to the people who stole them (although guessing that they all died was a fair theory all along). Of course, they fumbled the execution of that decent idea anyway so, yeah, I don't know how much confidence I have in these side stories moving forward so long as they continue to play in territory that doesn't need elaboration.
I'm just glad they decided to let Rian Johnson be the one to do the mold-breaking SW movies and leave the backstory stuff to the Ron Howards of the world.
Yeah I agree, but I always say that it makes no sense for Disney to be so hands-off with the mainline films and then hold control of the supposedly experimental side movies in a death grip like they have been.
I want Star Wars movies till I die. If the only good thing out of this movie is Lando that’s fine by me.
Agreed. Acting and script is more important. I definitely didn't want an impression, just the vocal tone and presence
Ya. but just like Starkiller Base and the Death Star...its a BIIIIIIGGG tentacle monster. Huge difference.
Im gonna say the tentacle monster and the storm with the star destroyer and the TIEs is going to be a part of the Kessel Run, which will probably be in the third act.
