I feel like one of the few people who just doesn’t mind someone else playing Han. If they were remaking any of the OT films, I would care more but since this is before that, I have no problem seeing Alden play him *shrug* I love the character posters and the costume design in this movie looks amazing! Bradford Young who was the cinematographer for Arrival shot this film and you totally get that vibe.
Also can’t say I like the dialogue of i want to be the best pilot in the galaxy. He never pegged me as a dreamer type. I would have rather him say something like “I’m the best pilot in the galaxy”. I get that we won’t see the same Han, but this is closer time-wise to ANH than say ROTJ Luke to TLJ Luke. He can’t be a radically different character. He can’t learn to be a cocky douche by the end of the movie. If anything he has to be MORE of a cocky douche and be a little bit less by the end.
Yeah I feel that's the camp most are in which is fair enough! I've come across a few extremes in Facebook comments(mistake) that were using the ruin word.
Visually, it looks great and overall it looks like it'll be fun. But, I'm also having trouble picturing Alden as Han. He's playing a younger version, so I don't expect him to be the exact same character, but something just sounded off. Still, it's a small sample size.
Welp, that confirmed all my fears. I feel bad for Alden though, cuz I don't think it's his fault I can't buy him as Han. He was just miscast, although I'm not sure they could have cast anyone that I buy as a young Han Solo. Have really no interest in seeing this in theaters now, might even peace out of this thread so I'm not just leaving negative comments all the time haha
The people that are going to say “ruin” are inevitable. Just as the prequels didn’t ruin Star Wars for most, this won’t either. Even if he doesn’t do Han well and we don’t believe him it really doesn’t take away my love for Han Solo. What i want is a fun movie that I can enjoy with a solid story, the movie to make its money enough that they don’t scrap Obi-Wan, but not enough that they continue to milk the teet of the old characters after Obi-Wan and focus on new characters and stories. I know that’s not how shit works probably but just my ideal situation.
what is the timeline? I view it as, he needs to have a character arc, and maybe we see how be becomes a bit more cynical. that could be interesting
Yeah if Lloyd/Christansen didn't ruin Darth Vader it's pretty much proof that nobody can really ruin this series' most beloved characters. I'm hopeful for Alden but I'm just not feeling it right now, and I'm at peace with that.
Personally, I think the annual releases are starting to dull the overall SW aesthetics. It's starting to become some Michael Bay/Transformers level of explosions/action. Alden is also seriously lacking the same charisma as Ford and it's painfully noticeable. I know it's only a teaser, but wow, I've never been so unhyped for a Star Wars film.
It's a weird paradox where I don't have a problem with a younger actor playing Han Solo, but at the same time I can't imagine who should be the one to do it. Also I think the very idea of making a young Han Solo film is inherently misguided from the start, but that's neither here nor there because somebody at Disney clearly wanted to make it.
If I were Disney I would focus my movies on force users but that’s just me. I think that’s what people really want to see.
Yes that’s be great too. But that’d have to be a darker ending I’d assume. Him getting betrayed. Timeline not 100% sure but I can’t imagine it’s too far from ANH. Although the Falcon looks brand spankin new. Han is 33 in a new hope. He looks in his early 20s here so maybe 10 years which I guess is a long time. I hope it’s around there and not like 2-3 years from ANH. If so Han and Chewy need to work on their maintence skills if the falcon got that dirty and outdated in that period of time
im gonna guess 10 years or so. If so thats perfect actually. I think the movie needs to have a dark ending that shakes the character. That's the only way we are going to care about this movie in the big picture.
checking in, loved both the tv spot and the trailer, no problem with Alden as Han. Also stoked this is coming out sooner than most album rollouts.
