“Bomb” is thrown around too frivolously these days. It will do the worst of the recent SW movies, but that is still a lot of money.
Remember when people were saying Amazing Spiderman 2 bombed with 709 million? Not liking a movie or critical reception doesn't equal bombing.
and it's not like box office bomb is always necessarily a bad thing, a lot of good movies flop, a lot of shitty movies make obscene amounts of money, the movie industry is almost already entirely a money thing let's not encourage that
Rogue 1 & TFA both passed the billion mark in their first month, and TLJ is over 700mil total domestic and international as of yesterdays sales, assuming it will surpass the billion soon as well. I reaaaaaaaally don't think Disney is anticipating a SW movie not doing well lol By these numbers, this movie would have to gross around 5-600mil total to "bomb", which is still, not by any means a "bomb".
TFA budget was $306mil R1 was $225mil TLJ was $200mil Assuming this will fall somewhere in the $2-250mil budget-wise, I'd probably take that bet.
Even if it was a 200 million budget before reshoots and they doubled production cost, I’m still taking the bet.
It's so weird to imagine an 80% reshoot. The confidence they have in it is crazy when it comes to the budget. I think a lot of companies would have just scrapped it.
Disney is sooo big though, with so much revenue, making back it's entire budget probably isn't that big/important of a concern
This is actually most of the reason they didn't care about Spider-Man being a Sony property. The amount of money they were making on Spidey merch was insane in comparison to what the film drew in.
I wish they'd push it back to December. Going to be weird to not have a Star Wars movie at Christmas time next year.
Yea I saw a poster for this at the theater and was shocked that it was due in May. Hardly any significant pub for it anywhere. 5 months for a movie like this is not that long at all. At least a teaser trailer before TLJ or something.
But what if the teaser hadn’t gone well? I wouldn’t risk putting a teaser for it in front of TLJ. I expect it in late Jan/early Feb.
I'm still guessing it'll come out in front of Black Panther. Though a Superbowl spot would make sense too since it's right around the same time as that.
Totally forgot about Black Panther. I feel like I’ve barely seen anything for that one which sucks because what little I have seen has been great.
Granted... it’s reddit, so take it with a grain of salt but I’m thinking it’s real? I read that some magazines are doing features next week so it’s going to start ramping up soon
