Giving an executive producer credit for the quality of a movie is bizarre. The director is the one that deserves that credit.

There are a bunch of shitty movies on that list, too. Kennedy is very good at what she does. She's made a great deal of money on a lot of films and helped some great films get made. But rather than cite her entire filmography, cite what she and Disney have done with Star Wars. Because her role with Lucasfilm is different than her role on Spielberg films which is different from her role in other films. With Star Wars, she's made/is making the Force Awakens, Rogue One, the Last Jedi, Han Solo, and the upcoming Episode IX. That's your track record to look to, here.

As much as I love Lord & Miller, no one knows Han Solo better than Lawrence Kasdan and Kathleen Kennedy has shown she really understands the Star Wars universe and what makes it special. It sucks that this happened, but until I get burned by Disney/Lucasfilm, they have my trust.

I'm not expert, but I think it really depends on the involvement of said producer. KK is very hand-on and is known as one of the best in the history of modern cinema so I think it's really sort of short-sighted to discount her abilities. You don't get people like George Lucas and Steven Spielberg to go to you for every project if your involvement isn't that important.

  8. You know Kasdan and Kennedy are two different people right?

  9. My post specified: "even more risks." The stories of hamstringing Edwards are numerous.

  10. Why? Cause he wrote (after Brackett) Empire and Jedi?

There's hundreds of Han Solo stories out there, many authors that have done more with the character than him. If I have to choose between Kasdan and Lord/Miller in terms of who I trust to make a great movie in 2017 ... I side with Lord/Miller and it's not particularly close.

  11. Also, the IMDB page screen shot only really says to me: I love fewer movies than I hate she's produced. And that Spielberg is awesome.

His original line for Han Solo was "I love you too." So I agree, I'm not ready to say no one knows the character better than him either

Lol. Oops. Sorry I guess I'm just defensive of Kennedy. Guess I shouldn't post at work when I can't pay attention.

I enjoy a lot of Ron Howard's work, but I'm definitely very skeptical any director could come in at THIS point and make a truly great movie. We'll see.

What I want to know is if the script will see a lot of changes. The directors getting tossed after two months of filming won't be in the favor of this film. If the script is getting re-written then that's even worse.

Directors prefer producers who stay out of their way.

How is she one of the best? That list was pretty bad.

Hiring comedy directors and then getting mad they tried to make a comedy is one of the dumbest things one of these mega-franchises has done.

It just sucks cos' these dudes are such fans as well. Imagine being fired from directing a film from a franchise you grew up loving. I bet these leaves a bad taste in their mouth as far as Star Wars is concerned.

Kennedy is just as wrong as anyone else in this and honestly doesn't deserve to be defended. She knew exactly what she was getting herself into when she hired Lord and Miller, she doesn't get to turn around and fire them for doing what they were hired to do and get a free pass from us. If she lacked the foresight to see how colossal of a mistake she was making before she went through with this lunacy, she isn't as good of a film executive as we've been led to believe she is.

Also, posting a list of someone's executive producer credits carries no weight whatsoever in terms of their artistic ability or judgment.

If anything, this mess has given me even more respect for Lord and Miller. Uncompromising in their vision, they'd rather tell Disney to screw themselves than be used for name recognition on a poster or in trailers and nothing more.

What Our Sources Are Saying About The Star Wars: Han Solo Shakeup.

"There’s also a bit of evidence that they might have done something that would violate Star Wars canon – dorky as that may sound – which could have been an issue on a creative level."

"One source described it as being oddly comparable to Jim Carrey’s performance in Ace Ventura at times. Ehrenreich let his concerns be known to one of the producers"

"The reason people close to the project have described it positively was that they saw several isolated scenes. However, when an assembly cut actually started to come together, that was where the issues presented themselves in earnest, and this is where Kennedy and Kasdan – as well as the other people reporting to them – started to get deeply concerned."

I feel like we're going to get a lot of hit pieces put out against Lord and Miller in the coming days/weeks/whatever. I'd be skeptical about everything negative we hear about them, personally. Disney has to be in full CYA damage control mode right now.

I get arguing whether they should have been hired in the first place, but if this info is correct sounds like she made the right call. Tough though.

    Mmm, still torn on this.

Love Miller & Lord, but also love Han Solo and want justice done to his character. Creativity would've been nice, but too make it too comedic or whatever, no thanks.

Hopefully it was the right call, and we get an awesome film.

Yeah I'm not paying attention to any quotes from sources, slamming Lord/Miller, slamming Kennedy, it's all floated out by different camps for PR and we'll never know if it's accurate.
