Solange is my girl. So excited for this. Her EP is one of my faves and I really enjoy her past albums. I've been waiting for something but didn't think I'd be blessed so suddenly!
Seriously imagine working for a music site and having to make an AOTY list this year lol FUBU is so good god bless u Terius
It took me a few days to get to this record, after spending a lot of time with Danny Brown and Bon Iver. So glad I finally put it on - everything about it is breaking my heart. Great companion record to Blood Orange and Noname and Jamila Woods. "Mad" is an especially impressive song. Love how the understated beat echoes the song's subject matter about the world telling black people to not display their anger outwardly. And WAYNE! Lil Wayne talking about his life, with no punchlines or abstractions, just straight truthtelling. This level of introspection is what I was hoping we would get post-prison for Carter IV and unfortunately didn't arise. If he turned around an album worth of this stuff it could be a late career peak.
Man, I get such an Aaliyah vibe. I love this so much. It's straight powerful. The message, everything.
I was just starting to listen to this last night before going to bed... really really loving it so far. Anything Raphael Saadiq is involved in is usually excellent in my book.
I'm not entirely crazy about this but I like a few of the tracks a lot. Especially Mad and Don't Touch My Hair. I do think Tina Taught Me is the best use of interlude/spoken word on an album this year.
I've had this on repeat for the last 2 days and I'm not going to stop anytime soon. Such a great album.
This is a good record, but I think the greatness of the content is driving it to levels of praise the music can't support. It gets stronger as it goes, but it's a little bit lacking in memorable melodies and hooks in spots. That said, shit like "Junie" and "Don't Wish Me Well" is outstanding.
