song is very cool but I def gotta echo the others saying they were reminded of Valentine very vividly with that first line of the chorus
Well, that's definitely different than anything she has ever released before. Not into this one at all really.
Trippy stuff. Feels like an odd choice for a single but I guess she released Lucy and Yellow early on the last one
Ok now I’m very excited for this record after “Unholy Affliction”. Glad I preordered, maybe their coolest song ever.
This is more interesting than anything I've heard from this band before. Intrigued by this album now. Very into this.
I knew SOMEONE had to notice this. Funny how with some artists/bands, a song sounding like another song is a problem, but apparently this is okay? I think the song is pleasant enough, but come on - the drum transition into the first chorus, and the melody when she sings "so whenever you want me" is pretty much an EXACT lift of the melody from Valentine when she sings "so why'd you wanna erase me?". Just baffling for two artists that are contemporaries and apparently even mutual admirers. AND these songs both came out within ~8 months of each other. Again, I say this and I do like both songs, really. But just, wow.
"Unholy Affliction" on the other hand is a lot different. Very goth, grunge-y. Really dig that one, more than "Shotgun".
Do they really sound that similar though? I kind of hear it but in no way does it sound like an intentional rip. I'd also imagine Shotgun was written quite a while before Valentine was even released.
Well I didn't say intentional rip and didn't mean to insinuate that either. Just an observation really. It's all truly subjective for the most part, but to my ears, yeah they sound very similar. I might pull out my acoustic guitar later and figure out the chord structure for both songs, they may not be in the same key. But the vocal melody, at least to me, is really really similar. All good, I'll still be listening to both regularly. I actually think I was making the comparison because in another thread, someone was comparing a new song to another band and saying that the new song sounds like something they've heard 'thousands of times' before, and in a negative way. Which I don't generally consider a problem, a lot of bands sound like other bands.
I don’t hear the similarities enough between the two tracks to have ever made the comparisons. While obviously the deliveries are different, I wouldn’t be surprised if the root note is different in shotgun along with the key. (I’m not going to commit to doing the work to figure that out)
