huh I just noticed that this thread only has five pages, that is kind of surprisingly low but broadly it seemed to be a pretty big deal so that's good
Feel like that was the case (low response) with “big” indie releases this year on here that weren’t Phoebe: this, Ratboys, Beach Bunny, Waxahatchee, Retirement Party, etc. They all have around 10 or less pages, and for many half the thread is pre-release discussion.
I love a few songs on this record and just like the rest, barring one or two I’m indifferent towards. Hasn’t stuck with me like Clean did so far
I wish Ratboys was the biggest band in the world I had a little crisis existential moment a few weeks ago when I realized that Beach Bunny came out THIS YEAR. It feels like that was so so so long ago
Same! Printer’s Devil is their best record yet and I was surprised how low attention it got (well, aside from folks who post in threads like theirs) on here. Definitely feels like Beach Bunny came out in a whole different year at this point haha. I love Phoebe and Punisher a lot but I do wish some other indie acts got the same attention she and that record are getting.
everyone got exhausted of the fiona discourse really quick haha i love the record but i understand that
This record is great. I think it’s her best/strongest work yet even though I love Clean. I think unfortunately it suffered from coming out so close to when COVID hit and before she could tour, so like a lot of other records this year, it got lost a little bit.
I listened to this SO much when it came out I had to give it a little break but I still think it’s amazing
I don’t think I’ve listened to another song from this year more than I have “Crawling In My Skin”. What an absolute tune.
I’ll add that if I had to introduce Soccer Mommy to someone in 5 songs, the majority of them would be from this record no doubt. The career toppers are for sure on here
this album is miles above Clean, if her next album makes another jump like that then we’re in AOTY territory
I think my fault with the album is that 4 out of my top 5 favorite tracks were released as singles, but the whole thing is so consistent that it doesn’t really matter
just that p4k gave it a ten and a sudden influx of a lot of hype and a lot of discussion around it. I think people just kind of got sick of talking about it on both sides lol
