finally getting to this. light blue she definitely played when i saw her in 19. reminds me of lets find an out
Between this, Saint Cloud, and the Indigo De Souza album, if I’m an indie artist looking to book studio time in the near future, I’d be doing whatever I can to work with Brad Cook.
Pretty over the moon with this right now. I can’t explain how rewarding it is to hear her stick the landing after a debut as good as Lush. If the Julien Baker album didn’t exist this would be a realllll strong contender for my AOTY. I honestly can’t even pick favorites right now; everything works.
glad to see the positive response for this album because i've been listening incessantly since release day. sounds like basically the perfect progression of her sound and already might be my favorite release of hers. certainly it's one of my favorite albums of the year. i can't stop listening to "forever (sailing)"
There’s not a second on this record that doesn’t feel completely necessary. Such a satisfying listen.
Well this is fucking awesome. Huge huge step forward. She really discovered her inner Aimee Mann and I love it
Wild how there isn't a weak track on the record yet I'd still say there is one track far and away better than everything else. Forever Sailing is absolutely stunning.
Her melodies are just next level. I literally went from having c. Et Al, Glory, and Ben Franklin stuck in my head in a period of like 15 minutes
damn i'm feeling real out of the loop on this one...listened to it twice and have no desire to go back. maybe i'll revisit later.
It's a wonderful record and I keep going back to it but I do prefer Lush and this did take a couple of listens to really stick with me
I’m kinda with you on this. I’ve probably listened like 5 times and most of the songs seem forgettable. I LOVED Lush and so far this isn’t anywhere near it for me.
I would call this a level up, a pretty significant one, in nearly all regards. the hooks are sharper, the songs feel like they have more purpose and direction, the instrumentation is more calculated and impressive and not as simply guitar-centric, and the production really adds an extra “pop” to everything. different strokes and all, and I could use a good refresher, but she wasn’t doing anything before that made her stand out high above her peers to me and with this one I am currently re-evaluating who her peers even really are. on another note, being in a healthy relationship for the first time in my life (with someone named Blu, no less!) makes Light Blue hit me in such an emotional place. tears well pretty much every time. not to mention it’s just so beautifully arranged that I think regardless it would be a major standout.
