This band fast approaching 'I can trust these guys to do anything on their next album and it'll probably be good' level.
Also this is their third album in as many years if my count is correct? And all of them have been great.
This definitely reminds me of the last grayscale record with the pop punk meets 1975 influence. This guys never been a good lyricist but woof some of this is tough. Funny enough god is probably the best on here
Again, I really bristle at the suggestion Ben is not a good lyricist. I get the stream of consciousness style is very different, but it never feels like he's phoning it in. Yeah some of the lyrics I think are a bit basic or I don't vibe with, but for the most part I like the fact they're in a completely different style and I think there's enough songs with really good lyrics to completely counteract it. Labelling him a bad lyricist is really off.
I don’t think he’s a bad lyricist, imo he’s pretty middle of the road and occasionally delivers some pretty head scratching lines. I also disagree that most of his lyrics really fall under “stream of conscious” as much as they do just “storytelling”, a style which doesn’t always work for me regardless of the artist Anyway this record is still hitting for me, and I think it’s gonna hit even harder in the warmer months. The grayscale comparisons are right on, pretty sure I tried to get people over from that thread back when the title track dropped haha. Much better than Umbra
Hahaha. Almost had ya! Yeah I dunno, that record just did very little for me, felt a little “going through the motions” after their invigorating previous two records. To their credit it’s probably still better than most bands of their ilk could do
Every day I ask myself “what do I feel like listening to?” and at some point every day I find myself hitting play on this. Wish it didn’t come out in November haha, seems like it’ll be a great warm weather album.
Meant to post that Blink cover a few weeks ago. They've confirmed they'll be playing it in their live sets.
Sounds a little bit like one of the more lowkey 1975 tracks and I’m here for it. Ben (the singer) said that the writing process for this album was a lot closer to how early Slowly Slowly albums were written and that excites me so much.
