This is absolutely my #1 2019 record. To see a band 20+ years in their career drop something this great into their career is impressive and even pushes their sound into new territory.
“I set out to make a short film that makes you question your own existence, here in this reality. When you lay down in your bed, next to the one you love, do you ever ask yourself - is it possible that this person could slit my throat while I’m sleeping? Enjoy. Pollution is everywhere.” - clown
Clown is so goddamn grandiose it comes across as corny and up his own ass. But I’m still here for whatever he makes.
Listening to S/T and Iowa for the first time in at least twelve years. I can't believe those are actually real. What happened during the writing of the latter? This thing is so constantly intense it's like a never ending rollercoaster. Everything Ends was my favorite song at the time, and I'm so happy to be reminded of its existence. Whatever instrument is playing in the background during the intro/chorus, the noisy one that sounds like a mix of feedback and... flute(?), is such a nice touch.
Couldn't go tonight because my mental health is too shit to cope with gigs/travelling right now. A bit gutted.
Listened to All Hope Is Gone for the first time and found it boring. Idk if it is the production or just the songs themselves, but it sounds very flat, like they're going through the motions. Gematria, Dead Memories, and Snuff are excellent though. Also I've discovered the niche Youtube wormhole of Slipknot mashups and I'm going to collect them all this week lol
Yea. The only thing I ever return to on that is the title track. Maybe "Psychosocial" because that's still catchy as fuck to me.
It has been ingrained in my memory as a meme for so long, that I forgot how the full song went... and it surprisingly is one of the best things on here too. The main riff slaps
Damn The Gray Chapter has some bangers, especially Nomadic, Custer, and The Negative One. The first half is a bit samey and lacks something I can't really pinpoint right now, but it's a much better album than All Hope Is Gone.
