Adderall is cool but I'm not sold on it as an opener. I listen and think, "huh that was cool/weird" then it feels like the album actually starts with The Dying Song.
Haven’t had coffee yet this morning but I don’t need it after hearing H377. What an absolute buzzsaw. I dig the ebb and flow of styles on this album, so far.
This isn’t gripping me like the last album did. Some moments and riffs here and there, but overall kind of boring. Not really excited to relisten.
Haven’t listened to anything before today, haven’t read this thread at all yet but currently on my first listening and while I’m also working so I’m not focusing on it a lot I am shocked that I am only on song 4 of 12. Feel like this has been playing for a half hour already and not getting much out of it. Definitely “quieter” than I was expecting after the last album. Doesn’t mean it can’t be good but not getting much from this so far which is disappointing.
think I'm actually liking this less with more listens honestly even without Jim's comments in that article, the whole thing screams rush job to me. I know some of this stuff is out of their control, but the vinyl having the wrong album title, an old promo pic and typos everywhere is a pretty worrying look after reading what Jim said. doesn't feel like this was the album we were meant to get haha ("Yen" and the last 3 songs still bang tho)
there are some cool songs here but a lot of the heavy ones just sound super formulaic, the BOOM STOMP BOOM STOMP shit is getting really played out. the better songs are the ones that step outside of that box a bit. opener and closer are the best ones here
At first blush nothing is immediately blowing my hair back, but I love and appreciate the chances they're taking here. The looseness of the record is awesome. Plus, it SOUNDS so good. This and WANYK are immaculate productions.
Probably been joked about for years but every time I see the acronym for the last record all I see is WANK.
This is decent. Not nearly as good as WANYK on first listen. The Jim root interviews didn’t give me a ton of confidence. Either way, I’ll give it some more listens and see if it grows
I'm having fun with this one. Like others have noted it doesn't come close to WANYK, and there's a few lows but some of the songs on this are really solid.
Same as most of the thread - I think it’s good, but WANYK was so very, very good and immediate. It’s my second favorite record of theirs only to Vol. 3, and it’s only behind due to pure nostalgia. There are some songs that will be serviceable live. And maybe it will grow on me. But I put these guys in the Bad Religion camp where any new release is a gift - they have oodles of material I can revisit whenever I want. But god damn, give me Look Outside Your Window, please. That sounded amazing.
