Adderall is going to be divisive, it sounds like if Slipknot wrote a Ghost song De Sade is my obvious standout on a first listen, strong end to the album with that and Finale
Hivemind is pretty good. Probably my favorite song off it so far granted it's the song I'm currently on right now lol.
After a full listen, I definitely like WANYK better. If there's anything I'd possibly revisit, it would probably be Hivemind or H377.
not sure how I feel about "Adderall" at first blush. definitely a bold choice to start the album with lmao
I like this album a lot more on a second listen, I think this is the first album that actually lives up to Corey's promise that it's a heavier version of Vol.3; a mix of the familiar and the new. Is it just me who thinks Heirloom sounds a bit like a slowed-down / softer Psychosocial? (And on that subject it would not surprise me if Hivemind started as 'let's write another Nero Forte', not that that's a bad thing)
I'm kinda mixed on this so far. on the one hand I like that they clearly put emphasis on making each song its own distinct thing and coming out with a really diverse album. when it pays off, it's fucking awesome - love "Acidic"'s weird blues vibe, "Warranty" is just an absolute heater and "De Sade" is a pretty cool mix of all their styles that kind of feels like a followup to "Not Long for This World". they really let Sid go off a bit more on this thing which is sick on the other, the side effect is this feels very uncohesive as an album. really miss WANYK's easy flow and the interstitials bits that transitioned between songs; this album just kinda feels like 12 tracks in any order. also so far "Heirloom" and "The Dying Song" are absolute misses for me, don't like them at all
I read a guitar world interview with Jim Root and it sounds like he has the same sentiment. Almost like they improvised more on the spot with less prep going in. He almost sounded like he would have done some things differently which is odd when the album isn’t even out yet. I haven’t listened to it but as long as Jay shows up on it, I’ll likely enjoy it
On relisten I think this is pretty handily my favorite slipknot record. It helps that I have no particular nostalgia for the early material so this weirder, more eclectic, generally (relatively) mellower/more melodic band is a lot more interesting to me.
Jay is a beast on it for sure, but there isn't really any song he gets to flex as hard as, say, "Orphan"
I'm waiting for release day to listen to the album in in full, but I did NOT expect the music at the end of this teaser. I think I understand why one might think the leak was a fake lmao
i can't believe this record leaked so early. anyway count me among the few who think "adderall" is amazing
