AOTY… IMO Everything works musically. Lyrically it might be be one of my favorite albums ever. The call backs to previous works are amazingly well placed. 10/10
Euclid is so good I can hardly believe it These guys have taken me from 2019 telling me The Night Does Not Belong To God only to drop it in 2023 that “The night belongs to you” and it’s belonged to me all along I don’t particularly even know what the hell they’re talking about but if that shit can’t make you feel something in your gut than we just don’t listen to music the same way
Weirdly not really loving this: The Summoning is pretty great and better than the sum of its parts but most of this feels pretty shallow from a pop songwriting perspective but masked by the huge production. “Rain” is way too close to like Hillsong United for comfort
I talk crap about this but I still keep coming back to it, especially the title track. There's a moment at about 3 minutes into The Summoning where he sings a little more straightforward and it goes into a scream/breakdown, and if he leaned more into that they would be one of my favorite bands. I think it's when he sings, "Why don't you show me what it's like?" EDIT: Also, the times when they get away from "heavy for the sake of being heavy" seem to engage me the most. Heavy parts are kind of whatever to me. Do people like Ascensionism? I really like the hip-hop sounding verse.
Ascensionism, Take Me Back To Eden and Euclid are all career highlights for the band. Monumental tracks.
It’s has this climactic, major feel that sounds to me like a winning song by the American Idol winner, which is a compliment lol
smart of them to play wembley at this point, no part of me believes they can sustain this level of momentum and hype for beyond a year or two
This band catches more backhanded strays than makes sense lol, even fans are like “yeah they better capitalize on this wave of popularity before everyone realizes their songs all sound the same”
Same! It’s pretty much this and the new A7X right now for me. Both incredible. Can’t wait for Blue Ridge and Baltimore!
Caught them last night. Wonderful show, wonderful energy. Really wished they had Take Me Back To Eden and Elucid in in the set.
Gotta say, I see their live videos on YouTube, and not only do they seem to never, ever play their best songs… do the guitarist and bassist really just stand there the whole time? This seems like a band who would benefit from a fully fleshed out live lineup - seeing “Vore” live just makes you wonder where this wall of sound on their albums is actually coming from
