Saw this band ages back referred to as 'djent Imagine Dragons' and have never been able to take them seriously since. Drummer's fucking unreal talented tho.
Sleep Token is going to be at Coachella Gov Ball Lollapalooza Outside Lands ACL all the big festivals in 2026 calling it now
I get the comparison because both have those pop soul-ish stomp clamp type beats at times, which I'm not a fan at all, but the vocal couldn't be any more different. They're such a turn off in Imagine Dragons lol
Good to see the P4K is back to rage bait .... stopped reading or caring about what they think a decade ago.
well the rage bait will probably work and he will make a lot of money off of it, so, good job I guess Ronald McDonald?
lmao the Sleep Token fans should start hanging out with Twenty One Pilots fans .... They had a similar theory when Clancy came out last year, were CERTAIN there was going to be a second half to the album. Didn't happen. People need to find better hobbies, I swear. lol
"Metal for Disney adults" is kinda funny ngl, these low scoring reviews are bringing out the jokes in full lol At the end of the day the band's still gonna be headlining respective festivals for the next 5+ years probably so they're getting their $$$ at least
It’s not like if ST wasn’t around people would be listening to Cult of Luna or Liturgy or Ulcerate or whatever
This sounds like Notes on a Conditional Form through djent after watching 100 Bon Iver TikToks and I swear to God, that’s high praise as I love all of those things. Look to Windward, Gethsemane, closer and title track are all truly phenomenal. I’ve never listened to the band before and I’m gonna go back through their catalog.
I listened to Eden today after not listening to it since release, and I really don't think it's that different than Arcadia. That being said I am really liking both.
Those Pitchfork and Ronald McDonald reviews are works of art. I think everyone in this thread would benefit from a good listen to Somewhere Along The Highway or Vermis personally.
Eh, couldn't this be aimed at any other acts with theatrics, concepts and lore? Whether we're talking about Slipknot, 30 Seconds To Mars, Twenty One Pilots and everyone inbetween on that spectrum. They've all faced similar criticisms at some point so I don't know how to feel about seeing that angle... again. It feels so lazy, like akin to saying "this is cringe" without providing enough substance to support it. (Regarding that particular argument, I'm not discrediting the review as good points were made btw) It may be corny but I'm not sure I can fault them for doing worldbuilding 101 and for knowing how to market themselves well in that regard. They've played the long game by ramping up that mystique and well, it looks like it's working in their favor because people are eating it up. I know I did with Slipknot back in the day, and some Metal bros were also very annoying about their shtick.
Every single time this band release something, I listen to it in the hope that it clicks with me. Because they’re fucking massive here in the UK. But, i listened to Caramel and it was such an endurance test. I think I get what they are trying to do, but it’s blended so poorly that it feels like a cut and shut of two different songs a lot of the time. And I think his lyrics are truly awful, and if they go the full pop route as seems likely, surely that will hold them back. It just sounds like music for the staff of Blue Banana. So, still not for me, but clearly LOTS of other people love this band, which is cool.
